Friday, May 28th, was the 3rd Anniversary of the Grand Opening of An Unlikely Story. In the last three years, we've met both customers and authors from all over the world, as far away as Australia, and as close as down the street (we're talking about you, Jeff Kinney!). We've hosted a Whalemobile, Santa and the Grinch, Haunted Houses, High School Quiz Show, and buses filled with Clifford (Scholastic bus), bunnies (Jan Brett) and Newbery Award-winning authors (Kwame Alexander). We wouldn't be here, going strong, without your love and support. We extend our sincere thanks to all of you for making An Unlikely Story a gathering place for the community, and a destination for book-lovers, authors, and illustrators. Here's looking forward to many more Unlikely adventures together!

Dan Kennedy, author of the blog Media Nation and regular panelist on Beat the Press, is coming to An Unlikely Story for a discussion and signing of his new book, The Return of the Moguls. Boasting an impressive collection of publications across both print and the web, Kennedy has been featured on NPR, The Boston Globe, and The Guardian. His work in journalism has garnered such accolades as the Bart Richard's Award for Media Criticism and the CBS Boston "Most Valuable Blogger" Award.

Jenna recommends:
Lauren Groff's new collection of short stories, Florida, is like a slowly approaching tsunami. Much of its force lies under the surface, but you know that when it reaches shore, a terrible power will be unleashed. Groff perfectly captures a sense of always present dread. An insidiously vague feeling that something isn't right, like the first prickle of sweat when the Florida heat hits you after leaving an air-conditioned room, sits tightly coiled amidst its pages. This collection is deeply human and deeply female. I loved it and will spend a long time absorbing its many, fluid layers.
Colleen recommends:
Parks and Recreation star Retta delves into her life as a comedian, family member, and ultimate fangirl, starting at how she missed the opportunity of a lifetime due to lack of confidence and ending at the drive-thru of KFC. We get all the important details of her infamous live-tweeting sessions, her classy/not so classy moments at award shows, and her aggressive love of handbags. This book is hilarious and empowering, proving that if you work hard and fight for your dreams, you can see the musical Hamilton six times and sit in Obama's seats. Treat yourself to a fantastic read and buy this book ASAP.
Lynda recommends:
I loved this book! Shaker Heights, Ohio is a beautiful, perfectly ordered community where everyone follows the rules and gets along...or do they? Mia and her teenage daughter rent an apartment owned by Elena Richardson, and become involved with the four Richardson teenagers. Superb writing gently eases the reader into the perfect life of the Richardson family, with the exception of daughter Izzy, and then exposes their thoughts, hidden secrets and vulnerabilities. A book most satisfying!

We are very excited to welcome a new face to our Unlikely Team! Emily Crowe will be co-managing the bookstore, with a focus on adult titles, of which she will also be acting as a buyer. In other words, she will be wearing many hats, appropriately sporting a birthday hat here!
Emily is a voracious reader, as well as a reviewer and blogger. Keep an eye out in upcoming newsletters and in the store for her recommendations. If you see her in the bookstore, please say hello!
