One of the brightest moments in the book world is the announcement of the American Library Association's youth media award winners, including the Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Newbery, and Printz awards. Check out the entire list of winners on the ALA website. We have many of the titles in stock or on order; give us a call if you'd like us to hold one aside for you.

We were happy to learn that Kara LaReau, who will visit us Sunday, February 5th at 2pm, won a Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor (a.k.a. Dr. Seuss) for her beginning reader book,
The Infamous Ratsos. Come congratulate her in person before watching the big game!

Sunday, February 5th at 2pm
Kara LaReau, fabulously hilarious author of The Infamous Ratsos, and illustrator Jen Hill, will introduce the first book in their new middle-grade series, The Unintentional Adventures of the Bland Sisters: The Jolly Regina, featuring the blandest sisters who ever embarked on a rollicking, swashbuckling, and entirely unintentional adventure. Register for this free event here.

Wednesday, February 8th at 6pm
Novelist Amy Ephron visits An Unlikely Story to share her brilliant debut fantasy novel for middle graders, The Castle in the Mist. With a castle trapped in a bubble, sealed away from time, accessible only via a hidden lock, and only by those deemed worthy, this story has traces of The Chronicles of Narnia, The Phantom Tollbooth, A Wrinkle in Time, and Bridge to Terabithia. Are you hooked yet?  Register for this free event here.

Do you remember a book you read once and then reread later at a different time of your life?  Is the message the same?  In this novel, The Book Club meets at the Athenaeum in Providence, RI and this year's theme is "The Book That Matters Most". Ava, one of the newest members, is a bit intimidated by others members choices: Pride and Prejudice , Slaughterhouse Five, Anna Karenina ...  Ava's husband has left her for another woman and their daughter Maggie dropped out of college, moved to Paris and has fallen into the dark world of drug addiction.  As the year progresses, beloved books are read and discussed and the delicate balance of  personal and family relationships are explored on the pages and in real time.

How to Get Run Over by a Truck
Using the power of crowdfunding, Katie is finally able to share her story with the world. At 24 years old, Katie was run over by a truck and lived to tell the tale. Katie makes great use of humor and honesty to frame her emotional recovery memoir.

Caraval
Caraval
by Stephanie Garber

Stephanie Garber creates a complex and intriguing world that will draw you in with the perfect mixture of magic and madness. Just like the main character Scarlett, who journeys into the titular Caraval to find her sister, every time you think you know what's going on, it's completely flipped around to the point where you don't know whom to trust, whom to fall for, and what's even real. The best advice? Just remember: it's all a game.
