An Unlikely Newsletter
July 6, 2017
Summer for many of us is a reminder to bring more joy and play into our lives. Instagram-worthy images of bare feet and hammock strings, a cold drink and a splayed-open book suggest a lovely way to spend a long, warm afternoon. Books can also serve as springboards for creativity: art and screenplays, gardening and star-gazing tips, catalysts for our own adventures in nature, travel, relationships, politics... We can find joy as consumers of stories, but also by what we do with the ideas the stories inspire. What inspires you, and how do you nurture this side of yourself? We have a great selection of titles in our Summer Recommendation section to help you create your own moments of joy and inspiration.

Paperback Fiction:
The Alice Network
The Alice Network
by Kate Quinn

The Alice Network is based on an amazing true story: during WWI, French aristocrat Louise de Bettignies, nicknamed "The Queen of Spies," ran a network of about 100 people in France, smuggling men to safety and collecting intelligence for the English. In Kate Quinn's unforgettable novel, two women - a female spy recruited to the real-life Alice Network in France, and an unconventional American socialite in 1947 - are brought together in a mesmerizing story of courage and redemption.

Razor Girl
by Carl Hiaasen
Carl Hiaasen is one of those authors who never disappoints! Like the rest of his novels, Razor Girl is addicting and hilarious, with some of the wildest characters Hiaasen has ever set loose on the page. Lest we forget amidst the belly-laughs, beneath Hiaasen's humor and wit is always a story of corruption, greed, environmental degradation, and heroes rising to the challenge. And, of course, Florida.

Dark Matter
Dark Matter
by Blake Crouch

This is the book you will not want to put down this summer; it's such a compulsive read you will just have to know what is going to happen! A truly awesome chase thriller with a love story at its core, driven by a smart, cool, sci-fi mystery. No spoilers, but think of movies like Looper or Inception and you'll start to get an idea.
