Happy 2017! We are looking forward to another unlikely year here at An Unlikely Story. Our January Events Calendar features two events to inspire you - one for creativity and one for health and wellness.
In last week's edition of The Week Magazine, the editor's letter refers to a study by Yale which tracked 3,635 people over 12 years and found that book readers lived, on average, two years longer than non book readers: "the more time spent reading books, the better." According to the study, reading papers and magazines does not have the same effect. "The benefits of reading books," the study authors conclude, "include a longer life in which to read them." * In case you needed more incentive to include reading more books on your list of New Year's Resolutions!

Many of us make New Year's resolutions to begin new habits that will help us to become healthier versions of ourselves. Patrick Kinney's wellness seminar will provide you with the basic tools to help you bring about lasting change and improved wellness. Topics will include, among others, the use of SMART goals, establishing dietary needs, and understanding the body's response to various types of exercise. Participants should leave the class feeling energized and well equipped to follow through on their resolutions, making 2017 a year of positive change! Register for this free event here.

Unlikely bookseller recommendations

This novel is a thoughtful spin on rebooting life. Liddy James finds herself immersed in an over-extended lifestyle and finds her way to happiness.
Lisa recommends:
Two friends, an icy road and a tragic accident leave one friend, Helene, comatose and the other, Shelby, the driver, trying to live with the aftermath. Alice Hoffman has created an emotional read that will have you rooting for Shelby as she finds a way to forgive herself.
Kym recommends:
A small town in Minnesota is the small pond where Hattie, a talented actress and popular high school senior, is the big fish. She has grand plans to move to New York City to pursue her dreams of acting after graduation. Who she really is remains part of the greater mystery, along with who killed her in the old barn on the lake. Totally believable characters and a captivating mystery make this a thriller you won't want to miss!
