An important message from Board President Greg Dobbs:
Dear
Friend
,
Auburn Youth Resources (AYR) was incorporated in 1973 to address the growing drug problem in Auburn and Kent. Over the past 43 years, our work has evolved to offer multi-service support for under served, homeless, abused, and neglected youth and young adults throughout South King County. We envision that every youth and family is healthy, housed and connected in their community.
We have become a larger organization than our founders could have imagined and there is more work to do than ever. The need is great throughout our neighboring communities and other cities and school districts recognize the valuable work our staff does. Right now we are working in Auburn, Algona, Pacific, Black Diamond, Burien, Covington, Des Moines, Enumclaw, Federal Way, Kent, Maple Valley, Renton, SeaTac and Tukwila as well as parts of north Pierce County; Sumner, Bonney Lake and Puyallup.
For over 5 years the board, staff, management, and funders of Auburn Youth Resources have been researching and contemplating a way to unite our work throughout all of these communities. We found it difficult to part with the sweet sound of AYR that we have cherished for 43 years but found a name change was one important way in which we could communicate our expanded presence and be better positioned to serve the growing needs of our region. In the end, we drilled down to a name that gave us a broad appeal and that resonated with our mission.
Today, it is my pleasure to unveil our new brand…Nexus Youth and Families. Nexus is Latin for connection and all of our work revolves around creating connections to a positive future for youth and families. We believe that Nexus Youth and Families belongs to the region we service and want others to know we recognize and appreciate their partnership with us in the work we do.
