Students gather for Music & Movement class in the Music School's Community Room. The room was affected by water damage this January.
In the wake of water damage at the Music School, we are deeply grateful for our community's wonderful and ongoing help.
On January 10, 2017, a sprinkler pipe burst in the Community Room at the Music School. Water poured into the room, down the hallway, and throughout the lower level, causing significant damage to the main and lower floors of the Music School's newer wing.
T
hough the damage to the building was severe, the community's outpouring of support for the Music School has been heartening.
Many thanks to the staff and faculty who sprang into action
immediately
to salvage equipment, instruments, and music, and to call emergency professionals to the scene.
The
Concord Fire Department
responded within minutes
,
and
ServPro,
Dodd Electrical, and
Hampshire Fire Protection
were onsite within the hour.
We offer our thanks as well to the volunteers who pitched in at our Volunteer Work
Party on January 28
, prepar
ing
the damaged rooms for rebuilding.
With the assistance of all of these people on our "team," the Music School's lessons, classes, and ensembles are continuing according to schedule
. Enormous thanks go as well to the many colleague organizations who offered their space for our offsite teaching needs. The "show went on" within two days (see below) and the four concerts since then have been full of community spirit and great music.
During this time of regrouping and rebuilding, please consider supporting the Music School.
or by phone at 603-228-1196.
Many thanks!

Himalaya Heritage Music Classes
Celebrate & Share
South Asian Musical Heritage
Many thanks to the Himalaya Heritage Music Group for their stunning musical performance on January 12 as part of the Music School's Bach's Lunch series!
On Sundays at the Music School, the halls now fill with the sounds of traditional music from Nepal and India, thanks to a new partnership with the Bhutanese Community of NH.
Professional musicians Sagar Khatiwada and Harimaya Adhikari are teaching singing and traditional instruments such as the harmonium and tabla to about thirty students of Nepali heritage, members of the younger generation of Concord's New American community.
We look forward to sharing musical traditions with these young musicians in the months ahead!

"Playing music together can connect people from all different kinds of age groups and backgrounds.
It transcends a lot of the barriers that we set up in our communities -- age, economic status, position in the community, any number of things -- and draws people together from different backgrounds and different interests."

Music School Folk Ensemble
member & former trustee
