Yogis/Yoginis,

 

The end of the year is a notoriously busy time for all of us whether at work, school or play. No matter what you celebrate during the holiday season, sometimes this time of year can bring about feelings of pressure, and obligation. Make sure you take time to nourish yourself during the month of December both on and off the mat and be sure to check the website for the reduced schedule at all locations. 


Special shout out to all of the 30 day challengers for spreading your persistence, determination and warm smiles across all four locations as you made time to fit in your practice every day during the month of November! 

 

As we come to the end of the year it is time to reflect back on what this year has brought. 2012 has been a year of growth and success for Ananda Yoga Studios. We could not have done it without the support of the yogis in our community and for that we thank each and every one of you for your incredible love and support. We continue to grow with many new and exciting ways for our community to find their path and walk on this amazing journey with us. We are looking forward to the new year and all the oppurtunities it will bring with it.

AURORA

 

Join Candice and Melissa as they team teach during the month of December at 6:30pm - Bliss Sisters Flow !

 

We are adding an earlier class for the early risers and a later class for those of you who like to moon salute !

Thursdays 9:30pm Gentle Flow with Shanna Wilton starting Thursday December 6th!

 

 

Thai Yoga Massage with Lisa Kerr in Aurora has been moved from Mondays to Tuesdays 1-3pm. Call now too book one for yourself or a friend if you've never had the pleasure of enjoying one!

 

Kids Yoga, free for the 1st class and thereafter you can purchase a package of six kids classes for $65. Sherry Ramsay will be running the kids classes concurrently with our heated classes so you can bring your little ones with you to yoga! Tuesdays at 5pm in Aurora Saturdays at 2pm in Bradford.

Children's Meditation Journeys
 

Nancy Arruda is a dedicated mother, believing in the principal that "kids should be kids". 

 

In these Meditation Journeys, Nancy focuses on guiding meditations that are fun and inspiring.  They allow children to expand their imagination and creativity while infusing a sense of relaxation.

 

Each week the meditations are different, but they all allow for the above noted, as well as focusing on grounding and centering their energy.

 

Allow the Light within your child to Shine, through these inspired Children's Meditation Journey's.

 

Tuesday Evenings from 5 to 6 PM

(Yes, there is a One Hour Hot Flow class at the same time for adults!)

Calling all Moms-to-be!! Prenatal classes take place on Wednesdays at 6.45pm in

Don't forget to try our Karma Classes every Sunday at 8pm in Aurora, Richmond Hill and Bradford!  A variety of instructors teach the classes and all of these classes are open to the community at a suggested donation of $5 per person.

Our Registered Massage Therapist, Maureen Creswell, at our Aurora location is offering from as little as a 30 minute massage up to 90 minute massages.  Be sure to schedule your appointment as she's a must for anyone that has tight muscles or an injury that needs healing or simply to de-stress and melt all your stress away.

Lisa Kerr does Thai Yoga Massage at our
Aurora location on Tuesdays from 1 - 3pm. Never tried a Thai Yoga Massage before? It's a great addition to supplement your yoga practice, loosening tight muscles and teaching you to relax into your poses.

Pose of the Month

 Seated Lotus Pose - Padmasana

 

 

   

 

 

Step by Step

 

1. Begin with both legs straight out in front of you. Bend right knee and bring the left leg into a cradle. The outer edge of the foot is notched into the crook of the left elbow, the knee is wedged into the crook of the right elbow. 


2. Lift the front torso forward so that the spine lengthens and the lower back does not round. Draw the knees as close together as possible. Use the edges of the feet to press the groins toward the floor and lift through the top of the sternum. 

 

3. Remember that this is a two sided pose and so we must swap sides. When first practicing this pose, hold for a few breaths each side then come out of it. Gradually adding breaths to the pose until you can sit comfortable. This pose calms the brain , destroys all diseases and awakens kundalini! 

Roasted squash, cranberry, walnut and mango puff pastries!

 

 

 

 

1 sheet ready-roll puff pastry
1 small or 1/2 a large squash (variety of your choice)
a handful of cranberries
a handful of chopped walnuts
1 tsp thyme 
1 tsp sage
salt and pepper to taste
4 tsp mango chutney

  

 

Cut the squash in half and remove the seeds. Brush with olive oil, place cut-side up on a baking tray and roast at around 200�c for about 30 minutes until the flesh is softened.

Unroll the pastry and roll it out slightly to make it into a square shape. Divide the pastry into four squares. Brush each square with a teaspoon of mango chutney, leaving a 1-2cm border round the edge.

Scoop the flesh out of the roasted squash and mash with a fork. Add the remaining ingredients and mix together. Place some of the mixture into the centre of each pastry square, then fold the corners in to meet at the top. Seal the edges with water and cut a couple of slits near the top. Line a baking sheet with greaseproof paper and place the parcels onto it.

Bake the parcels in the oven at around 200�c for 10-15 minutes until the pastry has risen and gone golden brown. Serve warm.
