The people who knew Jim Harrelson best knew the “Do Good” on his bottles was more than just a slogan. It was his life’s mission. The Do Good Distillery founder passed away Sunday after suffering a heart attack. He was 38. (Modesto Bee)

Anchor Distilling to Spin Off as Standalone Company After Brewery Sale

While craft beer lovers may be lamenting the sale of San Francisco’s Anchor Steam beer to Japan’s Sapporo Holdings, craft spirits lovers will be able to rejoice. Anchor’s principal owners, Tony Foglio and Keith Greggor, are splitting Anchor Brewing & Distilling in two with the deal and will retain Anchor’s distillery and its spirits brands under the standalone Anchor Distilling Company name. Boot Hill Distillery Revises Prickly Ash Bitters 

Italy may have some of the world’s most iconic amaro brands, but Dodge City, Kansas-based Boot Hill Distillery is hoping to prove that a bitter liqueur straight out of the American West can more than hold its own against its European counterparts. (The Drinkable Globe)

Manatawny Still Works Opens Philly Tasting Room and Bottle Shop  

Pottstown, Pa. distillery Manatawny Still Works has touched down in brick-and-mortar form on East Passyunk Ave. in Philadelphia, with the small-batch booze maker opening its own bar and tasting room—partly operational as of this week. (Eater Philadelphia)
