Rev. Fred O. Pitts

New Pastor Called
    To Begin in July

A very enthusiastic Pastor Search Committee recommended Rev. Fred O. Pitts to the congregation on Sunday, May 28.  Rev. Pitts brought a message titled "Concluding God's Will" based on Acts 16:6-10.  He had previously met with the congregation on Saturday and given some background of how God has been leading him. In his earlier remarks and in his sermon he emphasized the importance of prayer and being alert to the voice of God's Holy Spirit.  Since God's will is not always apparent, we must take responsibility to conclude what God's will is, taking into account timing and circumstance.  However, h e cautioned that God's will is always consistent with God's Word, the Bible. His concluding remarks were an encouragement to follow God's will wherever it leads.  At the conclusion of his message, his wife, Cindy gave a beautiful  message in a solo  about God's faithfulness. Immediately following the service the members of the church voted unanimously to confirm the call of Rev. Pitts as the senior pastor.

Rev. Pitts attended Georgia Tech and graduated with a degree in management.  While there, he was a student trainer for the Yellow Jacket football team and actively involved in the Baptist Student Union serving as president of the BSU for 2 years and as state BSU president his senior year.   Being led of God, Fred entered Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX where he earned the Master of Divinity degree.  While there he became engaged and married Cynthia Conner, a gifted musician who majored in Voice Performance.  Fred and Cindy have 5 adult children, 4 daughters and one son.  Three of their girls are married and the fourth is to be married this month. Their son is a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.  Fred comes to us from the Atlanta area where he has served his most recent church for nearly 13 years following earlier service with the North American Mission Board in revitalizing churches in the urban Atlanta area.

Our church is united in its enthusiasm about welcoming Fred and Cindy into our church family.   Let's also be praying for the sale of their home in Decatur, GA and for a new home in St. Augustine.  We thank God that He has led us together to serve in His kingdom and in this community.

Feed My Sheep
Off to a Great Summer of Ministry

A group of 7  faithful  volunteers came out on June 1 and delivered food to 30 families at the Webster School. Many members of the congregation have responded to calls to fill bags with the approved list of needed food items appropriate for homeless people. Added to the non-perishable foods is a bag of fruit each week. T hese bags were nicely decorated with Bible verses and messages of love and concern. Although we have a comfortable supply for the immediate future, much more will be needed to complete our faith commitment of food for 9 weeks.  Our thanks to all who opened their heart to this truly great need.

VBS at Ancient City Baptist
June 12 - 16     9 am - noon
Children ages 3 - 11

The Arctic Adventure is almost here and there are smiles on everyone's face!

So far, there are more than 60 children who will be happy when they see all the wonderful Arctic scenes prepared by almost sixty wonderful people from ACBC, many of whom are more than sixty years of age!

More than that, these children are going to be presented with the good news that God loves them and cares for them and that His Word is absolutely true.  The VBS volunteers are serving the Lord with gladness and they are coming before the Lord with singing.  The Bible tells us that the angels rejoice over each one that enters God's kingdom.

The biggest smile is on the face of God.  "The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness.  He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing."  (Zephaniah 3:17)

And that is something none of us want to miss!

Students from China to Be Hosted by ACBC
This Summer

Many local groups use the facilities of Ancient City Baptist Church but our church is making an even greater effort to reach across cultural bounds by hosting a group of 28 children from China this summer. The children are of middle school age and will be coming to us through the Education First organization which is based in Cambridge, MA.  The young people will be under the supervision of EF Program staff for morning classes at ACBC and afternoon educational field trips to various venues in and around St. Augustine.  Students will spend their evenings and  weekends with host families from our community where they will experience a cultural exchange through conversations and meals.  Their goals include improving English speaking skills and experiencing the American way of life.  The dates for this cross-cultural exchange are July 8 through July 24, 2017.

Anyone interested in the possibility of being a volunteer host family is asked to contact Sandi Zeljko, Program Leader, at 904-295-4454 (call or text).

Ancient City Christian Academy News

The Academy has enjoyed a beautiful month of activities as the VPK students prepared for and marched in the first graduation in their educational process. Special thanks to our VPK teacher, Cheryl Metsky, and to Janice Treadway, our volunteer music teacher for preparing and practicing with the students. It was a beautiful graduation program which carried a patriotic theme. After the graduation program the families, with children both older and younger, gathered in the fellowship hall to enjoy refreshments and to say their goodbyes.  Thanks to Ann Myers and Cindy Lewis for help with the refreshments.

Above, the graduates singing their hearts out.

On the right,  Mikayla who was excited about posing under the balloon arch.

Thanks to
Shane and Samantha Gibson who have provided and constructed the arch for us for 3 years.  They own the Celebrations Party Store at 900 Anastasia Blvd. Ste. E-2. Phone 904-824-1965.

Pictured below are some some of the many young families in the crowd of approximately 75 who enjoyed the celebration together in the Fellowship Hall.  We love these young families and their children!
