DiscipleLIFE for Kids

We recently completed the DiscipleLIFE series of messages in our worship and evaluated our own growth in faith. We noted that as maturing disciples we should be growing in "head, heart, hands, and feet." Well, discipleship is not just for adults! Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." I previously announced that this summer we will not offer our traditional Vacation Bible School; instead,  we will offer a unique series for children based on our DiscipleLIFE model. My wife Cindy is taking the lead, and though we will definitely offer an evangelistic emphasis, our focus will be on helping our children learn more about what LIFE IN CHRIST is all about. Simply put, we will remind them that disciples learn, disciples  love (both God and others), disciples  serve, and disciples share the good news of Jesus with others. Students will learn through Bible study, hands-on activities, games, fellowship, and take-home pages how a believer in Jesus is to use his or her head, heart, hands, and feet to become a mature follower of Jesus. Each week will be based on one of the disciplines of a follower of Jesus.

Our tentative plan is to offer DiscipleLIFE for Kids on Wednesdays during the month of June (6, 13, 20, and 27) from 9 a.m.-1p.m. each week. Cindy is putting together the plan right now, and we will soon announce a meeting for those interested in helping. While not as extensive as VBS, we will still need committed workers for this effort. I will be actively involved as a worker and am looking forward to it!

Please feel free to email me (see link at the bottom right of this newsletter) with any comments or questions. We hope to finalize our plans in the coming days, so be on the lookout soon for more information about DiscipleLIFE for Kids!
Good Friday

"Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit."

On Good Friday, March 30, we will gather for worship at 7 p.m. The service will focus on the uncertainty experienced by one of the disciples but representative of all Christ's followers on that day. A special emphasis will be placed on the sacrificial death of our Lord. Good Friday Worship will also feature special music that will touch our hearts and the Lord's Supper will be observed.

Resurrection Sunda y

Of all the teachings of the Bible, there is none more important than the bodily resurrection of Christ from the dead. The Apostle Paul declared, "If Christ has not been raised (from the dead) our preaching is useless and so is your faith...you are still in your sins."   (1 Cor. 15:14, 17   Our celebration of Jesus' resurrection is a victory celebration. It represents the victory of God over Satan, of life over death, and of hope over despair.

Our Easter service will feature a victorious message by Pastor Fred Pitts and our congregational singing will be enhanced by the sounds of a trumpet trio to signal the victory we celebrate. Don't miss this very moving service!  (11 am, April 1)
Jim Lee Dinner for Men
Saturday, April 21, 6 pm

Tim Forson
Superintendent of Schools

We look forward to hearing our new St. John's County Superintendent of Schools, Tim Forson, when he speaks to our group in April. He secedes Dr. Joe Joyner in the position who said, "Tim is a superior leader and an even better person. His integrity and character have made him one of my most trusted advisers. His commitment to this district gives me great pride and I am honored to have worked with him for almost 14 years."

Tim Forson previously led the Facilities Operations Department of SJCS for 10 years, served as principal of Bartram Trail High School and Principal of Mill Creek Elementary School. He began his career as secondary social studies teacher and coach. He was named Teacher of the Year in 1992 and Principal of the Year in 2005. He is a lifelong resident of St. Johns County.

The Jim Lee Dinner is named for a former member who had a strong desire for the men to meet together for fellowship and encouragement. The menu boasts of a delicious steak, baked potato, salad, vegetables, bread, dessert, tea/water. Plan to arrive at 6:00 to greet others and to get seated. The meal will be served at 6:30. Please sign-up at the table near the entrance to worship and indicate if you need chicken rather than steak.

Keenagers Host Bluegrass Group
Thursday, April 5

Open to everyone, the Keenagers meet on the first Thursday of each month at 10:30 am. This month they will be entertained by a group associated with the St. John's County Continuing Education program. This particular group is a Bluegrass group.

The people who migrated to America in the 1600s from Ireland, Scotland, and England brought with them the styles of music that are considered to be the roots of today's bluegrass music. These immigrants settled in North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia. One of the most popular groups to establish a place for this type music was Bill Monroe who was from Kentucky, thus he called his group, "The Blue Grass Boys."

Meeting time: 10:30
Lunch time:    11:30-Fried chicken provided, bring a covered dish!
