Our Ministry to Children in Florida
In 2015, Florida Baptist Children's Homes provided 155,384 services to precious children and families in Florida and throughout the developing world. We were able to meet tangible, immediate and long-term needs and show hurting children the life-changing love of Christ. This was possible because together, we planted seeds that are sprouting with hope in places near and far and in ways more spectacular than one can imagine.
In 2016, we will continue the fight to push back the darkness children and families endure by all means necessary and local Southern Baptists churches are being asked to stand together to help even more children.
On May 8th, Mother's Day, a special offering will be taken in our church just as it will be taken in other Southern Baptist churches throughout the state of Florida. The need is great. In Florida alone there are nearly 10,000 children in foster care available to be adopted into loving homes. On average, there are more than 20,000 children per month in Florida who are part of investigations of abuse, abandonment or neglect. Just as flowers and plants get their energy from the sun, so too, do these children and families find joy when we share our light source with them, God's Son, Jesus Christ.

Our Ministry to Children in St. Augustine:
Feed My Sheep
It's that time of year again when we are preparing for our Feed My Sheep program. We are in need of brown grocery bags which must be doubled bagged. It's always nice if you decorate those bags with Bible verses or with attractive pictures. These may be brought to the Fellowship Hall where they will be processed and delivered to the Webster School every Thursday in the summer. With the school year ending on May 26, distribution will begin earlier this year. We do not know at this time how many families will need our help this year.
WE NEED DOUBLED & DECORATED GROCERY BAGS PACKED WITH THESE FOOD ITEMS:
1 jar of peanut butter 1 jar of jelly 2 Mac 'n Cheese
3 Spaghetti-Os or Ravilio 1 box of graham crackers Packages of fruit cocktail or peaches
Pop tarts
Enough food for 4 days for an average of 3 children.

National Day of Prayer
The 65th annual National Day of Prayer will be observed May 5. The theme for 2016 is
Wake Up America, emphasizing the need for individuals to return to God in reverence and remembrance of His blessings on our country. The Scripture chosen this year is Isaiah 58:1, "Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet." Dr. Tony Evans is the Honorary Chairman and he has written a special prayer to be read throughout the nation. Millions of people will gather at thousands of events facilitated by local volunteers.
President Abraham Lincoln signed a Congressional resolution calling for a Day of Fasting and Prayer on March 30, 1863. In 1952 both houses of congress passed a bill and President Truman signed it into law requiring succeeding presidents to set a date each year for a National Day of Prayer. In 1988, congress passed a bill and President Ronald Reagan signed into law stating that the National Day of Prayer would be the first Thursday in May of each year.
Locally, the National Day of Prayer will be observed on Thursday, May 5, beginning at 6 pm at the Castillo de San Marcos. This is a non-denominational event facilitated by Market Place Ministry. Participants are encouraged to bring a folding chair or blanket. There will be special music, a brief message and...PRAYER.

Fifth Sunday Lunch
and
Volunteer Sunday
May 29th will be a 5th Sunday and we will enjoy our usual 5th Sunday lunch on that day. It will also be the first Sunday after public school is out for the summer. Many of our members have served in various volunteer roles, mostly in the schools but also in other outreach efforts. We want to recognize outreach volunteers in the morning worship service and at lunch we will have a cake decorated in their honor. A "Volunteer" song will also be sung for them at lunch. It will be a holiday weekend, so bring a good portion of food fit for the holidays and summer. As always, the church will provide the chicken, both fried and roasted.
