V B S  2016
Ocean Commotion

With only 10 days to go before VBS, enrollment was only in the lower 40's. After so much preparation, both spiritually and with facilities, we were concerned but committed our work to God in prayer. On opening day 71 excited kids made their entrance through our special "cave door" and joined in jubilant song.  What an answer to prayer! There were new children on the second day who added to our excitement bringing our attendance to 73 which is 70 children more than the number we have in our church Sunday School!

Wednesday was set to be the day of our first invitation to receive Christ as Savior. We wanted the children to hear the Good News of the Gospel three times before they were invited to make a response. With much prayer the first invitation was carefully extended. Unless proper care is taken, virtually all children want to respond without fully understanding. "Why did you raise your hand?" or "Why did you come?" was asked of each who responded. Of those, 5 children understood and were counseled thoroughly with Scripture. On Thursday and Friday, 6 more children were counseled and prayed to receive Christ as Lord and Savior. These 11 may not be the only ones who believed for the first time and were born into the family of God.  We trust God's accounting more than our own and know that it's not a certain prayer or even one's own decision, but faith that counts. "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31). Jesus called the children to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these"  (Luke 18:16).

Much appreciation and thanks are due to the nearly 50 volunteers who helped to make this year's VBS such a success. We also want to thank the parents who entrusted their children to our care for the week. Most of all, we want to give all the glory to God for His blessing on this outreach ministry.

Feed My Sheep

On these hot summer Thursday afternoons a group of dedicated and faithful volunteers climb the stairs to work on the third floor where the air conditioning is not running. They sort and gather bags of food to be taken to nearly 40 families who would otherwise find it difficult, if not impossible, to feed their children. This ministry is going forward faithfully with one full month's of deliveries behind us. We're at the half-way point with the last delivery to be made on August 4. On that day we want to provide school supplies to the same children that we are now providing with food. From funds that have been donated, we will order backpacks and schedule a "pack the backpacks" day when they will be stuffed with the school supplies "our children" will need. A complete list for each grade will be provided soon and made a part of email reminders and bulletin inserts for church.

Please continue to pray and to give as the need is great. Your gifts are so much appreciated by those who are in need. Watch for the supply list and pray about providing the needs for one or more children.

Ancient City Christian Academy News

Academy children are enjoying their summer with Hermie and Friends. Fridays are special as that's the day everyone gets to play outside in the water. After the outside fun, a cool movie appropriate for little ones is the other event of the day. Enrollment is growing with a new family registering from the VBS group. If you know of someone who needs free VPK, please encourage them to contact the Academy and request a tour (824-4256). The pictures below show some of the children playing in the water recently and also our patriotic parade on June 30 to celebrate the 4th of July.
