Join us as we celebrate Andersonville's vibrant art scene by showcasing the work of visual and performance artists in local businesses during the twelfth annual Andersonville Arts Weekend THIS FRIDAY, SATURDAY & SUNDAY!

The street comes alive with opening night receptions at many great Andersonville businesses!


 

Here is just a sample of what is in store:

 

Milk Handmade, 6-10pmArtist and jewelry designer Attalie Dexter (Shades of Grey Jewelry) will be on hand to demonstrate her craft and answer questions while guests enjoy locally-made whiskey and gin tastings from Andersonville's KOVAL Distillery. Plus, the Eye Spy Optical pop-up Airstream will be parked out front. Green Genes, 6-10pmGreen Genes owner and featured artist Heather Muenstermann will set up a mini open studio to demonstrate her use of mixed media, including beeswax, found objects and ephemera.

 

Mercantile M, 6-10pmEnjoy hors d'oeuvres & cocktails while listening to music from the folk/alternative rock band "Ain't Dead Yet" and viewing works on display from Chicago art collective 4-Outside.

Art Walk

The highlight of the Andersonville Arts Weekend is a self-guided art walk featuring work from mostly Chicago-based visual artists, shown throughout the neighborhood in galleries, restaurants, retail stores and other traditional and non-traditional art spaces.  The walk will include a wide variety of painters, sculptors, photographers, jewelry artists and more displaying and selling their work.  This is a great chance to pick up a piece of art (or two!) and support emerging Chicago artists, many of whom live in or around Andersonville!  The art walk will be open on Saturday & Sunday from 11AM - 6PM.

Performances and Events
During Andersonville Arts and Design Weekend, you can also find a wide variety of live performances and other events! Highlights include:

Upended Productions' Alice
Saturday & Sunday, beginning at 1pm
An ambulatory, multi-disciplinary theatrical experience. Follows a white rabbit to various location throughout the Andersonville neighborhood. Ducking into storerooms and back patios, through bookstores and taverns and galleries, the audience IS Alice and the Andersonville neighborhood becomes a wonderland. Chapters of the book are divided amongst Chicago fringe theater companies, visual and film artists and performed in the various locations throughout the neighborhood. Performances begin at The Neo-Futurarium, 5153 N. Ashland. An Evening of Theatre and Dance at Unity Community Center
Friday from 7-10pm

Explore Unity's Community Center with a reception for Arts Weekend, as well as the following exhibits/performances:

  • Musical performances by Philip Torre, baritone; Cecilia Pinto, violinist; and friends - offering a mix of both classical and pop; as well as Constellation Men's Ensemble.
  • Dance performances by Unity Works Dance Project II, choreography by Sarah Gottlieb, Synapse Arts Collective, and Ascension Performing Arts.
  • The Gallery at Unity, with an inaugural exhibition at our ongoing gallery, featuring local visual artists: Judith Richelieu, Paul Romejko, Sharon O'Keefe Starkman and John Baker, Unity's Artist in Residence.
  • Performances by Walkabout Theater, Underscore Theatre Company, Unity Players, and The Waking Theater.

During Andersonville Arts and Design Weekend, 48th Alderman Harry Osterman will be holding a series of events to honor local businesses who have contributed to the Andersonville business district and arts community.


 

Friday, 10/10 at 7:00pm - Join Harry for a "toast" to White Attic and Scout on their 10 year anniversary and celebrate Andersonville's home and design stores with refreshments! 5221-25 N. Clark Street

 

Saturday, 10/11 at 10:00am - Celebrate the unveiling of "Women & Children First Way" in honor of Linda Bubon and Ann Christophersen; and meet-and-greet new Women & Children First owners Lynn Mooney and Sarah Hollenbeck. NE corner of Farragut & Clark Street.

 

Sunday, 10/12 12pm - 2pm - Join Harry, the Baxter family and the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce to celebrate and honor Jan Baxter, Andersonville business owner and pioneer for 30 years, who will be retiring at the end of October. An open house in the Landmark of Andersonville (5245 N. Clark) will include refreshments and a toast to Jan's impact and future!
