Animal Shelter Relief Rescue

...to the rescue!

Animal Shelter Relief is an ALL-VOLUNTEER 501 (c) (3) California charitable non-profit. Every donation goes
directly to saving the lives of abandoned, homeless and injured animals.

Our mission is to relieve overcrowded open-door animal shelters
through rescue and placement into foster

homes, thereby reducing the euthanasia of homeless cats and dogs.

Happy Birthday to Animal Shelter Relief rescue!
A note from Amy Strickland, President and Founder

Hello Animal Shelter Relief community! I am so thrilled to announce that October marks our 6th anniversary of saving the lives of homeless animals throughout the central coast and bay area!
Since October of 2008, ASR has rescued and placed 1,089 animals (mostly cats and dogs, but there were some mice and Guinea Pigs and a horse too!) into permanent loving homes. ALL of these animals were in danger of euthanasia at our local open-door animal shelters due to a lack of space, their age, or special needs issues. If ASR had not taken these animals and placed them into foster homes and then into our adoption program, they would not have had the second chance that they so deserved!

The only way that ASR has been able to accomplish this was because of the generosity of its volunteers and supporters, people like you.

This newsletter is devoted to profiling just a few of our wonderful volunteers and foster parents. And as you will see, there are many ways to support and help ASR in its life-saving mission. If volunteering at our adoption fairs or fostering animals in your home is not possible for you, consider lending a hand to help with administrative tasks or photography or fundraising. There are so many ways to help!

And of course, we are always in need of monetary donations as ASR receives no government funding. The more money we raise, the more lives we can save! Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to ASR or a recurring donation.

Thank you so much for supporting Animal Shelter Relief and for being a part of our animal welfare community!

Meet the Franklin family!

The Franklins (Sara, Rose, Michelle and the boss, Ginger) have been fostering for ASR for 5 years and in that time they have opened their homes and hearts to dozens of homeless kittens. heres what they have to say about the experience...

We have been fostering for about five years. We first decided to foster because we thought it would be fun to take care of cute little kittens, and help them at the same time. That is definitely true, but it turned out that fostering was so much more then that!  There is so much joy in helping these kittens feel better, learn to love and trust humans, and to match them up with people who are looking for an animal to love. Then of course there's being able to come home and play with kittens, they are so much fun, definitely a win-win situation! ASR is a fantastic organization to volunteer for, they support us every step of the way and stop at nothing to help these animals. Fostering is by far the most rewarding thing we have ever done as a family, everyone chips in, including our dog!

Meet Stephanie Richman!
(seen here with her two kitties Tiggy and ASR alumnus Turtle) who after adopting from ASR decided she wanted to be a part of our life-saving mission. Fostering was not an option for her so she offered to help with administrative tasks such as sending all of our thank you cards to adopters and donators. She also designed our nifty little donation boxes you may see around town
.
These tasks are crucial and may have fallen to the wayside had Stephanie not offered to help.
There are so many ways to volunteer!

Meet Jenny Wood!

(and foster kitten Ginger)

Jenny has fostered kittens for ASR for 5 years but in the last 2 years she has taken on our grant writing. Jenny researches what grants might be available, files the necessary paperwork and writes the grant proposals all as a volunteer. Because of jenny, ASR has received over $2500 in grant funds, all that have been applied to paying the high cost of spaying and neutering our rescued animals.
There are so many ways to help!

Meet Kitty Woldow!

(seen here with foster kitty Boots)

Kitty has been fostering for ASR for 2 years and in that time has opened her home to numerous homeless cats. What is special about the cats that Kitty fosters is that they are all 'older' (2-14 years old). These are the cats that get passed by at the animals shelters in favor of the little kittens. Boots here is 5 years old, but she also has senior cats that are 12 and 14 years old. Kitty brings them all out to our adoption fairs every weekend and often they are passed up for the kittens, but they all do eventually find homes, it just takes longer, but it is worth it!
