Updates
It's been a slow news week because of the upcoming holiday, so I really have no updates in this issue. That means nothing got bumped, delayed, canceled or otherwise frigged up this week - and that's a good thing! :-)
I did want to mention that we are talking to the folks that make the neuro Neko Neko ears about becoming one of a small pool of US dealers, so hopefully we'll be able to add this awesome item to our catalog soon. I've had a sample pair for awhile that are rarely not on my head while at the office, and they are very cool.
And finally, as we get ready to break for the long holiday weekend, I'm going to leave you all with some excellent life advice - from the cast of Gilligans Island... -_^

Jason DeMarco, former Toonami producer and recently promoted vice president of strategic marketing and promotions for Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, revealed via his Twitter account on Thursday that the revived Toonami block's schedule will remain a secret until its airing on May 26. ANN previously posted TV Guide's listing for Toonami's programming block, but DeMarco responded via Twitter, "That is NOT the lineup. But to be clear, I don't think that's a bad lineup." The TV Guide listing included Cowboy Bebop, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Durarara!!, FLCL, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG. Adult Swim, the cable and satellite network that is paired with Cartoon Network, revealed on Wednesday that it will bring back its Toonami programming block. Adult Swim's press release also revealed that "new original anime programming" is being developed for the return of the Toonami programming block. Previous series featured on the block will also make their return.
They will be showing Deadman Wonderland & Casshern Sins as well. The entire line up for Saturday night (Sunday morning actually) will be:
12:00 a.m. - Bleach
12:30 a.m. - Deadman Wonderland
1:00 a.m. - Casshern Sins
1:30 a.m. - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
2:00 a.m. - Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG
2:30 a.m. - Cowboy Bebop
and then over again from 3 to 6am.
The Yahoo! Japan auction for the winner to have his or her image projected from the cockpit section of the rebuilt life-size Gundam at the Gundam Front Tokyo at Diver City Tokyo ended on May 16 with a winning bid of 779,000 yen (about US$9,800). The auction, which ran for one week, opened with a starting bid of 1 yen (about US$0.01). A digitally-rendered image of the winner will be created from photos and projected from the statue. The winning amount will be donated to charity to aid the victims of last year's earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan.
It's going to a good cause.
Police in Kanagawa Prefecture arrested composer Hideki Taniuchi (Death Note, Kaiji, Otogi Zoshi, Aoi Bungaku Series) for possession of dried cannabis on Tuesday. According to the prefectural police, the 39-year-old man asked to speak with a lawyer and has not provided a deposition yet. Police reported that Taniuchi was taken into custody from his Yokohama home at about 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday. He was allegedly concealing a pipe and 1.5 grams (about 0.053 ounces) of marijuana valued at about 9,000 yen (about US$110) in his second-floor living room. Authorities went to Taniuchi's residence after receiving testimony from a Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) employee. Kanagawa Prefectural Police had arrested 36-year-old Miki Teshima on Saturday for marijuana possession. Teshima claimed that she received the marijuana from Taniuchi. According to police, Taniuchi had been giving Teshima marijuana for five or six years. In addition to composing music for television anime series, Taniuchi performed opening theme songs for Hajime no Ippo (Fighting Spirit) as a guitarist in the rock band Shocking Lemon.
Well, they say that pot doesn't make Anime better, but instead that Anime makes pot better!
Retail news source ICv2 reported on Tuesday that Trans World Entertainment, which operates 400 F.Y.E. and Suncoast stores, recorded a $2.8 million profit in its first quarter. Trans World Entertainment began seeing profit in 2011 again, making the year its first profitable one since 2006. The gain is compared to a nearly equal $2.5 million loss for last year's first quarter.
First profit since 2006? Yeah, that sounds about right. I think that's everyone's story. -_^
The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission said Tuesday that he supports tiered broadband Internet plans, a growing trend that has drawn criticism from Netflix. Julius Genachowski said during a cable industry trade show in Boston that "usage-based pricing could be healthy and beneficial" for broadband and high-tech industries. Cable service providers and wireless carriers have changed billing practices to charge users by how much data they use. They say they are moving away from unlimited data plans as users - particularly on wireless networks - congest networks with their heavy use of Internet services.
The cable companies are angling for data caps and meter based bandwidth pricing, just like the big telecoms did with wireless services a couple of years ago. Services like Netflix are far too cheap and bandwidth metering is a good way to make them more expensive for everyone. More here.
And finally, in my regular "there is a Zucker born every minute" column - in consideration of the Facebook IPO debacle that occured earlier this week, someone took some time to think about what it would like like if historical events were on Facebook. It's a funny and enlightening way to demonstrate how people like Mark Zuckerburg would like for us to compartmentalize all our social interactions down to a a few dozen words at a time.

Secret World of Arrietty DVD/BD Combo Set
 The Secret World of Arrietty is a remake of the magical fairy tale The Borrowers, as seen through the keen, imaginative eye of Japanese writer Hayao Miyazaki. The American version of this delicately, richly animated film is that rarest of children's movies--one that is a deeply engaging experience for adults as well. The visuals and graphics are gasp-inducing, yet never over the top or too showy. And the actors dubbing Arrietty in English, including standouts Amy Poehler, Will Arnett, and Carol Burnett, are expressive and emotive. The Secret World of Arrietty tells the tale of a small family of "borrowers," tiny people who live underneath the homes of the "beans" (human beings). The borrowers must stealthily gather small bits of items they need--a sugar cube, a sheet of tissue, biscuits--from the upstairs without being discovered by the beans. Arrietty is a plucky teenager (voice by Bridgit Mendler) whose parents (Poehler and Arnett) think she's ready for her first "borrowing" excursion. But meanwhile, a young "bean" named Shawn has moved into the house above them, to rest and prepare for a heart operation, and to be cared for by the flighty Hara (Burnett). Shawn thinks he might have seen... something... moving in the meadow where he rests and reads. It's not giving away too much to say that Arrietty and Shawn brush against each other's lives--and neither's is the same afterward. For any fans of Miyazaki's other films, and anyone of any age seeking immersive family-friendly entertainment that's life-affirming, The Secret World of Arrietty is a winning experience.
Tales of Vesperia the Motion Picture DVD/BD Combo Set
 In a mythical kingdom, the mighty Imperial Knights harness a magical substance known as Aer to power their weapons and protect humanity from the monsters of the forest. But something strange is afoot; the Aer is somehow changing, causing the wilderness to waste away and stirring the woodland beasts to attack with greater frequency. As danger creeps steadily closer to civilization, two young recruits - Flynn, the rigid son of a fallen hero, and the rebellious and brash Yuri - must ride with their fellow Imperial Knights to distant ruins in hopes of uncovering the truth behind the transforming Aer.
