When Anna fled her home country due to extreme poverty and violence, she landed in Richmond with her son and another baby on the way. Her extended family, already patients at CrossOver, brought her in so she could sign up for our obstetrics (OB) program. Our OB program works closely with our Social Work program to ensure that new moms have everything they need.

When Anna came in for her first social work appointment with Program Coordinator Abby Dini, MSW, we learned that she has a son living with autism. He was getting ready to start Kindergarten and Anna was having a hard time communicating his needs due to a language barrier.

Abby connected Anna with Communities in Schools of Richmond (a local non-profit) and with the Richmond Multicultural Liaison’s office to get assistance in advocating for the services her son needs.

Late last year, Anna gave birth to a healthy baby girl at VCU Health. Mom and baby are doing great and her son is excelling at school!

Your support and the support of other community organizations make happy endings like Anna’s possible. Give a gift today and you will help entire families thrive!
