First Class of Technion-Cornell Program Set to Graduate
 
Graduating students and at Technion-Cornell
After three years, the first class of students at the joint Technion-Cornell University program are set to graduate. Heads of the program, along with Israeli education officials and diplomats, gathered Thursday night in New York to mark the event, which will officially take place on May 29.

Office of Inclusion & Student Engagement (OISE) Hiring Program Assistant
 
The OISE Program Assistant supports the OISE Program Coordinator in the coordination of programs for OISE and other members of the Graduate School Dean's staff. The schedule for this position is flexible, but it will require some hours in the evenings and weekends depending upon program needs. Part time position will be 6 -8 hours per week. Apply online.

Big Red Barn Closed for Summer Starting May 20
 
The Big Red Barn will be closed for summer, beginning Friday, May 20th, except for TGIF, TA Grading Breaks & private parties. There will be no TGIF on Friday, May 27th due to commencement weekend.

The Big Red Barn will be open on Monday, May 23rd for TA Grading Break only (6pm - 8pm).

Creating Inclusive Courses: Universal Design and Beyond

How do we design courses that address issues of diversity and inclusion at a fundamental level? How can we make sure that our classes effectively address students from a diversity of backgrounds and with a range of learning strategies? Join Dr. Peter Martin  , Chair of Ithaca College's Department of Education, for a workshop on course and syllabus design. 
 
This 2.5-hour workshop is hosted by the Inclusive Teaching Network , a working group of graduate students, postdocs, faculty, and staff supported by  CU-CIRTL  and the  Center for Teaching Excellence
 
Workshop attendees are encouraged to bring their syllabi-in-progress to learn how to incorporate inclusive teaching techniques into their own courses. By participating in this workshop, participants will learn the principles of Universal Design and other inclusive course design techniques; practice building inclusivity into their course designs and syllabi; and participate in a community of individuals similarly committed to inclusivity and diversity in teaching.
 
This workshop is aimed at graduate students and postdocs in the humanities and social sciences who are interested in effective teaching. However, all are welcome to attend. RSVP here .

Regeneron's Science to Medicine Forum is an opportunity for Cornell's graduate students near the end of their program and first-year postdocs to learn more about an industry environment, careers in biotech, and Regeneron's postdoctoral program.  Attendees will also have the opportunity to present a talk or poster on their research, space permitting.

Engaged Learning and Research Hiring Graduate Assistant
 
The Engaged Cornell Graduate Assistant will be serving the initiative with
responsibilities that include: assisting with the creation and implementation of
campus-community collaborations related to Tompkins County's collective impact
initiatives; providing logistical, administrative, and strategic support for events and
meetings; identifying and developing resources related to community partnerships
around collective impact; using Microsoft Office and other technologies to document
and share the work; advance and support impact assessment practices; and other

International Travel Reminders

Cornell students and staff who travel internationally on Cornell-related programs or university business are required to register their travel in Cornell's Travel Registry, as noted in university policy 8.5 Risk Management for International Travel. This requirement applies to degree-seeking undergraduate, graduate and professional school students as well as Cornell staff.

On a related note, all Cornell faculty, students, and staff are covered by UHC Global Assistance (formerly FrontierMEDEX) when traveling abroad on university business. UHC Global Assistance provides emergency evacuation assistance, medical referrals worldwide and can provide travel assistance in emergency situations. Data Carpentry Workshop

Cornell Astronomical Society Hosts Stargazing

Starting on Friday, May 27 from 8:00 pm - 12:00 am - The Cornell Astronomical Society hosts stargazing at the historic Fuertes Observatory on Cornell's North Campus every clear Friday evening starting at dusk. Great opportunity: GATAN workshop - Hands-on EELS and EFTEM Workshop for Beginners and Experienced Users

The Gatan advanced EELS and EFTEM Workshop at Cornell University will begin Thursday, May 26 at 9:00 am with a lecture by Paolo Longo, Gatan, Inc. Following the lecture participants will have the opportunity to participate in comprehensive, hands-on training on advanced EELS and EFTEM topics. The practical sessions on the microscope will be given using Cornell's Cs-corrected FEI Titan Themis equipped with a GIF Quantum ER.
