Dear Dean,
I've heard numerous complaints from my graduate student peers that they are "harassed" by union employees at work and at home. Is there a way to stop these unwanted visits?
Sincerely,
Concerned Graduate Student

The Intergroup Dialogue Project, the Graduate School, and the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning, have created a meaningful process for graduate students and post-doctoral scholars to explore their social identities, to practice communication across difference, and to think together about authentic diversity in academia. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. When what? When your computer's hard drive crashes. Every hard drive has a finite number of cycles before it will fail. And when it fails, it will never be at the time that is the most convenient. What can you do to make the situation less stressful? Make sure all of your documents and photos are backed up! Whether you're backing up to a local, external hard drive or use a cloud service, backing up regularly is the best way to protect your data from loss. Every Cornell student has unlimited storage in Box as well as unlimited storage with the CMail account in Google. Google Photos (http://photos.google.com) has a synchronization tool that automatically syncs your photos to your Google account as well. If you want to get serious about backup, there are many options that you can use for a fee. Crashplan, IDrive, and SOS Backup are all good options. All of which also let you choose local storage for backup should you want to utilize an external drive as well as cloud backup. |

The Student Advocacy Committee (SAC) of the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly (GPSA) is an available resource for students. The GPSA is the graduate student branch of the shared governance system at Cornell, and the SAC addresses issues that affect the well-being of graduate students, such as mental health, housing, and academic environment. While students are always welcome to reach out to the GPSA via their field representatives, starting this semester, the SAC is also offering a service to students who are involved in a grievance procedure case; upon request, a committee member can accompany the student during proceedings and provide moral support through the process. To clarify, we are simply offering to accompany a student during proceedings for the purpose of moral support, in case they do not have a friend willing to do so. We are NOT advising students with regard to specific actions to take, and will redirect students to appropriate channels if they have questions. You can email the SAC at gpsa-sac@cornell.edu for more information about the committee, the assembly, and other resources on campus. |
