The Annual Summer Picnic
Sunday, August 19th
11:00 a. m.
Washington Park
Anacortes
Note: Arrangements are different from previous years.
What to bring:
- Your own entrée
- A side dish to contribute to the potluck
- dessert, salad, staple, vegetable, condiments, bread, or appetitizer
- Your own drinks
- Utensils and plates
- Blankets, chairs, sunscreen, Frisbees, etc., as needed
Charcoal will be supplied by Pat and Dave Young.
How to get there:
Take Highway 20 West to Anacortes. Continue on 20 as it becomes Commercial Avenue and continue driving through town. Take a left on 20 (12th Street, AKA Oakes Avenue). Safeway will be on the right. Continue west past the ferry landing to the park.
Doreen will get there early and snag a shelter with a grill , as we do not have a reserved spot.
The unit we're snagging is closer to the water, so go into the 2nd (lower) parking area. It's still close to the kiddie area.

Project Homeless Connect Volunteers Still Needed
Project Homeless Connect (PHC) is a one day event that connects families and individuals that are experiencing homelessness, at-risk of becoming homeless, or that are low-income to social and health services in Skagit County!
This year Project Homeless Connect will take place on Friday August 24th, at Skagit Valley College.
PHC is not possible without the help of hundred of volunteers to create a welcoming event! PHC still needs volunteers to help out in a couple of roles:
- Movers on 8/22 & 8/23 (must be able to lift over 30 lbs)- please contact Isabela at [email protected] for more information.
- Interpreters! Do you speak Spanish, Mixteco, Triqui, Russian or Ukrainian? We need your help!
- Guest Guides! Serve as a guide for guests and help navigate Skagit Valley College's Campus.
- Greeters! Provide welcome and direct guests to Guest Check-in and other services.
- Children Activities: Are you 18+? Do you love kids? We need your help to facilitate kid appropriate activities while their parents are waiting to receive dental care. We have the games and activities- we just need 2 volunteers! Contact Carol for more information: [email protected].
- Food Prep on 8/22, 8/23, & 8/24. We prepare a FREE lunch for 1,000+ people and we need a crew to help cook mac & cheese, prep veggies, and cook chicken. For more information please contact Isabela at [email protected].
- Dental Clinic- Every year we provide ~80 guests with FREE dental care with the expertise and time of dental professionals. For more information contact Carol at [email protected].
- Friday 8/24 : 1 Dentist & 1 Dental Assistant
- Saturday 8/25: 2 Dental hygienists or 1 dentist

There is going to be a special service on Nov. 11 with guest musicians. They are asking if SUUF has any percussionists. Hey percussionists! Are you out there? If you're interested in sharing your percussion talents on Nov. 11, for a very exciting service, let me know. You don't have to be a professional, just able to keep rhythm. Please contact:

Emotional Intelligence and Conflict Resolution Seminar

at SUUF from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. We will explore the nature of conflict and strengthen our conflict resolution skills. It is not about politics, and it is non-religious.

The Dances of Universal Peace are simple, meditative, joyous, multi-cultural circle dances that use sacred phrases, chants, music and movements from the many spiritual traditions of the earth to touch the spiritual essence within ourselves and recognize it in others.

Shalom Circle is a liberal Jewish Community founded and co-led by Cantor Miriam Fein and Simme Bobrosky. We share spirited and meditative services, classes and festival celebrations.
