Our Sunday to participate in the
Family Promiss
assistance for guests currently without homes is coming up on
July 29
.
We will have a brief meeting at SUUF following the program on Sunday,
July 15
, to provide specific information and talk about how it will work this first time. We will need 4 people to help prepare and serve dinner. We also need a couple of people to stay with the guests overnight and close off the building when they leave about 7 a.m. That will be all we are expected to do but the help we give is important.
Please come to the meeting after the July 15 meeting and we will go over the process. Thanks for your participation.

Message from Vincent Lachina
Urgent help needed!!
Friends: We need your help, and we need it quickly. Chris Charbonneau, CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest and the Hawaiian Islands sent the following email of concern regarding the proposed gag rule for Title X Family Funding. We have an opportunity to submit our comments to the Department of Health and Human Services stating our opposition to this proposal. Please take a moment to click on the link below and offer your comments. Together, we can make a huge difference. And, if you are able, please forward this to your own network of friends who are supportive of women’s reproductive health care.
Grateful for you and your ministries! Vincent
As you know, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) introduced a gag rule that would undermine the nation’s program for affordable birth control and reproductive health care, radically restrict health care providers, and impact millions of people across the country. Here is what the proposed gag rule would do:
- Make it illegal for providers across the country that participate in the Title X program to refer their patients for safe, legal abortion.
- Impose new restrictions designed to make it impossible for patients to get birth control or preventive care from reproductive health care from Planned Parenthood.
- Remove the guarantee that people are getting full and accurate information about their health care from their doctors. For nearly two decades, Title X law has been clear: Health care providers cannot withhold information from you about your pregnancy options. This rule means they can.
This is bad. And this is why we need your help.
Fight back against Trump’s attack on Title X funding! We know that 4 out of 10 of our patients at GNHI receive care through the Title X program. This new rule will block them from accessing essential health care at Planned Parenthood – or from any health provider who performs, gives referrals for, or even mentions the word abortion.
Don’t let Trump take away peoples’ health care!
Click the link below, share it with your network and speak out about what Planned Parenthood means to you, and why the care we provide is so important.
We have until July 31 to submit comments.
Last year, you raised your voice and stopped unprecedented attacks on reproductive health and rights. Now it’s time to do it again.
our copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)
Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"

Skagit Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
Summer 2018
7/15 Ken Stern – “Beacon press and the
Pentagon Papers”
.
Come hear our history of standing for the First Amendment. In a case tied to Alaska Senator Mike Gravel, a Unitarian Universalist, the Court denied Beacon Press the right to publish the Pentagon Papers, even though the New York Times and Washington Post had previously won their cases in favor of freedom of the press.

7/22 Tom Gillespie – God’s Top Ten List:
Three special guests (one eternal one ancient and one modern) will help us explain The 10 Commandments in a UU Style.
Celebrant: Jorge Manzanera
7/29 Garth McMurtrey – Procurement Fairies:
Procurement
Fairies are one explanation for the creation process. These fairies love to play, and they mess with us in playful ways. There are ways to play with them and help them create events and circumstances that are fun for us. I’ll talk about what they like and how we can play with them and have more fun!
Celebrant: Garth McMurtrey
8/5 – Eileen Gribble – Living with Conflicting Science vs God
:
I will share bits of essays on being science aligned AND "religious" at the same time, followed by a round robin/talking stick style of sharing on the topic and how we deal with these dichotomies.
Celebrant: Eileen Gribble
8/12 Jorge Manzanera – Technology at SUUF
.
There will be a demo of the audio-video and internet technology that we have available at SUUF, including tools for creation and collaboration like Google Suite. Selected pictures will be shown, and maybe a short video, regarding the effect of technology on our lives and our spiritual lives, tied to two of our UU Principles. If there is time, it will be open to questions and comments.
