"The River"
This Sunday
9/9 Rev. Barbara Gilday: "We Are One"
As the world seems to be dividing into more distinctly opposing camps, we do well to remember that we are irresistibly connected. We'll look at refugee children and their parents from S. Sudan, the idealistic, peaceful protesters in the WTO meetings in Seattle in 1999, and the concept of intersectionality, brought to the foreground by Black Lives Matter. Let’s think about the fires and the smoke that we’re experiencing. And finally, let's consider the most politically opposite person you can think of and together, find common ground.
This Sunday, Sept 9, Potluck and Concert at SUUF Join us here at 1 pm for a Potluck and concert with a new friend from down under. Chrissy Ukelele is visiting Cindy Bjorklund and wants to share with our community and get to know us all. We will potluck between 1 and 2 and then Chrissy will give us a concert. Musicians are welcome and her performance will be followed by a jam session and sing along. Bring your instuments, snacks or your voice. Also will take donations for hall and Chrissy's travels. Call Cindy for details 360 708-1798

Chanting for Healthy Living and Spiritual Harmony

Chant is used to quiet the mind, open the heart, uplift the spirit, strengthen community and mourn the dead. Chant is the breath made audible in tone. We chant to join our voices to the voices of the countless seekers, worshipers, mystics and lovers of life in every time and place who have shared sacred song. Learn about how and why it works. Come experience it for yourself.

UU 101 – part 1

The spring survey results were very clear: our congregation wants to know more about our own Unitarian Universalist religion. Victoria will lead us on a journey exploring our roots, our values and how we came to be the religion we are today. This is the first of five sermons scheduled this year on this topic.

The Theory and Practice of Zax
In his brilliant story “The Zax,” Dr. Seuss takes fundamentalism to
its logical extreme when a North-Going Zax and a South-Going Zax meet
on a path and neither will step aside to allow the other to pass. As
these Zax stand puffed-chest and glowering, let’s gather up a picnic
lunch and go out for a visit, to discover whether UU values might help
loosen this wet-knot situation.
Friday, September 14 service and potluck Simme will be blowing the shofar and Miriam will be chanting the traditional prayers and playing the violin for Kol Nidre. In addition to the prayers, Simme will be leading Tashlich, a letting go ritual that helps us to get in touch with what we want to part with in order to start the New Year with new eyes. Since our service is on Friday evening we are doubly blessed to welcome Shabbat. We look forward to sharing the 'birthday of the world' and the 'day of remembrance' with you.

Following the service we will share a vegetarian potluck meal. A basket will be available for donations. Simme and I look forward to sharing our High Holiday celebration with you, take care and blessings, Miriam and Simme.
