Announcing Important New Rules for

Youth Protection Training

Hi ,

Your BSA Person ID:
Date of your last Youth Protection Training:

The policy on Youth Protection Training in the Pacific Skyline Council has just been updated. On April 30th, Pacific Skyline Council was advised of new requirements for Youth Protection Training ("YPT") applicable to all registered adults in the Council -- effective immediately.

Youth Protection Training is Now Required for Every Volunteer,
and Must Be Repeated Each Year.

The following policy on Youth Protection Training now applies to all registered adults involved in Scouting within the Pacific Skyline Council:

  • All registered adults in Scouting are required to take Youth Protection Training.
  • New leaders must complete Youth Protection Training within 30 days of registering and before volunteer service with youth begins.
  • Youth Protection Training must be retaken each year to remain current.

Your role as a Scouting Merit Badge Counselor is critically important. MBC's are valuable mentors, teachers, and advisors who impart the important lessons Scouting teaches. The Council values your support, time, and expertise in this vital role.

A safe environment for youth in our Scouting programs, however, is of even greater concern for BSA and the Pacific Skyline Council. This change strengthens the policy adopted earlier this year by Pacific Skyline's Executive Board, except that the training refresh period has now been shortened by BSA from 24-months to an annual requirement. As a result, you will not be re-registered, and your registration and participation will be ended before July, unless you are current in YPT.

You can easily log in to your MyScouting account and confirm training records or take the 20-minute online YPT courses. Further information and guidance can be found on the Pacific Skyline Council website, under the Training tab at "Youth Protection Training" to assist you. If you have any remaining YPT questions or technical problems, please send an email to  [email protected] and we will assist you.

Thank you for all that you have done for the Pacific Skyline Council, and we hope you will continue sharing your gifts, experiences, and wisdom with our Scouts for many years to come.

Yours in Scouting,
