ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN EL SALVADOR
(From left) Ana María, Eva and Vilma display the  diplomadas, or  certificates, in Local Economic Development they earned at the Universidad Luterana Salvadoreña (Salvadoran Lutheran University).

Ana María is a co-founder of the Concertación de Mujeres, in Suchitoto, El Salvador.  Concertación is one of the groups Mary's Pence partners with for the ESPERA community lending pool program. Her sister Eva is the ESPERA Promoter for El Salvador, Nicaragua and Honduras. Eva meets with the leaders of the ESPERA groups in those three countries and assists with administration. As the local ESPERA coordinator for Concertación, Vilma helps the other members of Concertación manage the funds. The group elected Vilma for this position of administrative tracking, and pays her salary with interest from the loan fund.

MOTHER-DAUGHTER BOND STRENGTHENED BY FUNDING WOMEN TOGETHER
Sister for Christian Charity Pat Rogucki is a past Mary's Pence board member. She and her mother, Jean Rogucki, are both long-time supporters of Mary's Pence. We asked them what it meant to support Mary's Pence together.

Jean Rogucki -
Why do you support Mary's Pence?
"Because you are all honest and you put the donations to good purposes."

Pat Rogucki -
Why do you support Mary's Pence?
"Because it provides an alternative to an exploitative economy and makes the women's impossible dreams possible."

How does it feel to know that you and your mother are pooling resources by both giving to Mary's Pence?
"It encourages me and strengthens our bond, that we are working for the same purpose."

Open Our Eyes

God of Justice
open our eyes
to see you in the face of the poor.
Open our ears
to hear you in the cries of the exploited
Open our mouths
to defend you in the public squares
as well as in private deeds
Remind us that what we do
to the least ones,
we do to you.
Amen.
