About the Marcella McGrogan Carnegie Volunteer Award
The award was started in memory of Marcella McGrogan. Mrs. McGrogan, along with her late husband Daniel J. McGrogan, spearheaded the founding of the Historical Society of Carnegie in 1990, in anticipation of Carnegie's Centennial Celebration in 1994. Mrs. McGrogan also helped to compile the Borough history published to mark the Centennial. In 1998, Mrs. McGrogan was instrumental in The Society's acquisition of its current home at One West Main Street, which serves as a museum and archive repository.
Mrs. McGrogan remained active as Executive Director/President of The Historical Society until 2013. Mrs. McGrogan passed away in August 2015, leaving a legacy of passionate and determined volunteer service and a deep and abiding love for the Carnegie community.
The purpose of this award is to honor Mrs. McGrogan's memory by recognizing and rewarding extraordinary dedication to the Carnegie community and its residents through volunteer services and community outreach. By doing so, the Historical Society hopes to increase and enhance volunteerism in and among the Carnegie community.
