Chesstival--Big Chess,
Big Success!
Chesstival--a festival of chess--kicked off the Chess Challenge in DC 2015-16 season. Students from all of our program sites came together Saturday for a day of fun, food, and prizes. Most of the students have been playing for a couple of months now and some of them have been in our program for a year or more.

Chesstival gave everyone a chance to play some chess and participate in other chess related activities like Chess Jeopardy, Bughouse, or a Simul. Face painting and chess crafts were available and families were invited to spend the day. Without leaving the Richard England Boys and Girls Clubhouse program participants had their "Chess Passports" stamped after they completed the various activities. Children that filled their passport were eligible for a special prize. Door prize drawings during the day were greatly anticipated and enjoyed by all.

King of Chesstival with his Students From Brent Elementary
Always a highlight of the day, the King of Chesstival was crowned for having thehighest percentage of their students in attendance. This year the honor went to Coach Ingram of Brent Elementary School. Brent kids will be digging into a pizza party to celebrate their win.

Special thanks to the awesome CCinDC Board of Directors who turned out to volunteer, our amazing coaches, a super team of volunteers including students from Georgetown Prep, and the Richard England Boys & Girls Clubhouse #14 who has hosted us for many years. Couldn't do it without you! It's great seeing kids have so much fun and learning--at the same time. That's what we are all about!

The next big event for CCinDC program participants only is the Winter Tournament on January 30. As always, registration is free! Prizes will be awarded to top individuals and teams.
We love what we do. We love seeing the difference that learning how to play chess can make with a young person. Help us to continue fun (and FREE) programs like Chesstival and our Winter Tournament by donating to CCinDC. We will be taking part in #Giving Tuesday, December 1st, a global day to give where you live. Please consider making even a small donation--it is greatly appreciated.

Happy Thanksgiving! Thank YOU!
