COVID-19 arrived half way through the centennial year of Waldorf education, a moment in time in which many had planned to review, evaluate and plan anyway. Now, with all that is upon us, this process has gained added urgency. What is our social mandate? Where do we stand today? How can parents and teachers work toward a "reopening" that holds the best of past traditions and is yet radically new? This one hour webinar will look back to the founding of the first Waldorf school in 1919, touch on our current realities, and explore pathways forward. This webinar is taught by Torin Finser, Ph.D. , Core Faculty in Education Department at AUNE.

By learning to decipher what are actual memories and what are imagined, we can navigate the emotional obstacles of guilt, fear, shame, ego, and resentment; while exposing whatever secrets we are holding onto that are causing us emotional pain. And, as writers, working through our trauma will open up vast areas that we previously feared to explore. This will not be therapy. It is more an honest evaluation of self that will guide you toward beginning a personal essay.

Our sense of self and identity is often revealed through intentional and unintentional choices, such as the clothes and hairstyles we wear, and the activities we take part in. Join us as we explore, through the arts, how cultural identity can help us better understand ourselves and others. Through reading, discussion, making art and the analysis of art, we will develop a deeper understanding of cultural identity and diversity, and how to teach our students about the multicultural landscape that surrounds us all. The Institute is led by Maryhill’s executive director, Colleen Schafroth, with guest presenters throughout the week. Extracurricular activities can include visits to artist’s studios and regional institutions. Cost: $215 members / $230 non-members. Scholarship(s) are available.
