Antonacci: DiNapoli's Dereliction of Duty

Comptroller fails to crack down on Tax Cheats

SYRACUSE, NY -  Bob Antonacci released a statement earlier today critical of Tom DiNapoli's failure to audit big real estate partnerships throughout New York State.

"Tom DiNapoli has repeatedly ignored requests from good government groups as well as State Assembly members to crack down on tax cheats who may potentially owe the state hundreds of millions of dollars," said Antonacci.

New York State Assemblyman William Colton has already sent multiple requests to State Tax Commissioner Thomas Mattox over the past two years demanding the release of any audits conducted by the State Tax Commissioner's office regarding these partnerships.

But despite Mattox's assertion that hundreds of such audits are currently ongoing, the Commissioner still has yet to provide any hard information to support his claims.

When Ron Deutsch, executive director of New Yorkers for Fiscal Fairness, raised the issue with State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, DiNapoli failed to show any interest.

The reason? Many of these real estate partnerships consist of LLC's which have contributed more than $12 million to Democratic statewide candidates since 2010.

"Comptroller DiNapoli plainly thinks his contributors are above the law," continued Antonacci.

"By allowing these LLC's and other real estate partnerships to get away with millions in tax fraud, Tom DiNapoli has not only besmirched the office of State Comptroller, but also failed the hard-working people of New York who file honest tax returns."

Bob Antonacci is the two-time elected Comptroller of Onondaga County, which has the highest credit rating in New York State.
