If you are a NYCHA resident looking for a career opportunity, we are pleased to announce that the NYCHA Resident Training Academy (NRTA) is now recruiting applicants!

 

The NYCHA Resident Training Academy (NRTA) is a partnership between NYCHA, Robin Hood, and some of the best employment trainers in New York City. The NRTA provides free employment-focused training and job placement assistance to public housing residents in the fields of Janitorial, Construction, and Pest Control. 

 

The following classes will be offered this fall: 

 

NRTA Janitorial Training

 

In this FREE training, participants will gain:

  • 4.5 weeks of full-time training
  • OSHA 10 Certification
  • Practical mathematics skills
  • Equipment and Compactor Operation training
  • Floor Stripping and Finishing training
  • Hand on cleaning training

To qualify, you must:

  • Be an authorized NYCHA resident
  • Be able to qualify at a 6.0 reading and math level on the Test of Adult Basic Education 
  • Be 18 years or over
  • Be able to be on your feet for eight hours each day    

NRTA Construction Training  

 

In this FREE training, participants will gain:

  • 8-weeks full-time training for work in various construction trades
  • Introduction to trades such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical
  • OSHA 10 Certification
  • 5-hour Supported Scaffolding
  • 5-hour Asbestos Awareness
  • 5-hour Confined Space Hazard Awareness
  • Job placement assistance for short-term and long-term jobs with NYCHA contractors and affordable housing developers upon successful completion of  the program

To qualify you must:

  • Be an authorized NYCHA resident
  • Be able to qualify at a 7.0 reading and math level on the Test of Adult Basic Education
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a High School Diploma or GED
