President's Letter
James E. Martin
Dear Members:

Happy Spring!  Is that a true statement?  After all, our Annual Conference scheduled in mid-March was derailed due to a snowstorm.  That just gives us a few more months to fine tune our agenda and then enjoy the warmth of the early summer.  With the conference being rescheduled to June 14th, there is still time to register and there are still plenty of events to attend.
One event I always look forward to is the annual Supplier Diversity EXPO and April meeting.  For this year's event we head back to a past host, Morgan Stanley.  This is a key experience for members who will be in attendance whether they have a table, or are just interested in meeting suppliers that are in the MWBE category.  Providing this kind of forum is essential for many of our member's companies to meet MWBE suppliers they may not ordinarily get an opportunity to do.  I encourage you to attend and if you have a supplier you think would benefit from attending, please recommend this event to them.
Finally, please remember to conduct an assessment on your skillsets and how you stack up against your peers.  There is renewed optimism in the business world and once again, hiring is beginning to happen at a brisk pace.  If you see positions which require skills you might not have then take a look at our professional development classes.  We are coming off one of our most successful years for enrollment and I encourage you to see if there are offerings that can build up your knowledge and skillsets to meet any new opportunities that might come your way.

May 5th, 2017

Seminar Overview:

Participants will be introduced to essential points of Intercultural Communication and Management using the 6-D ModelĀ©,  a framework that guides the user on how to to deal with cultural differences in outsourcing working relationships.

The class will address how these cultural differences impact leadership, decision-making, control, coordination, planning, project management, communication, cooperation,
knowledge transfer  and knowledge sharing, profit vs. cost center perspectives, effectiveness and efficiency, motivation, and results, etc.

The goal of the seminar is to provide awareness that will enable professionals to  facilitate outsourcing best practices, and  optimize relationships from an Intercultural Management Perspective.

Topics Covered:

Participants will learn to identify, address and mitigate cultural risks with tested tools and intercultural management best practices. The workshop highlights and addresses the  cultural risks and challenges between several key countries where outsourcing commonly flows, e.g. from the US to India, China, Mexico etc.

The instructor will survey participants in advance to be sure regions of relevance are included. Through the 6-D ModelĀ©, based on Professor Geert Hofstede's global study of cultural differences and similarities between countries, and real-world examples, the critical issues and best practices related to offshoring and nearshoring will be taught.
