ATA Gymnastics Newsletter                                   April 2017

April is Handstand Month
Bryan Allen, pictured to the left, competed on ATA's competitive team &was a member of Acro Army, the acrobatic group that won third place on America's Got Talent in 2014.  Bryan was a pro at handstands...as you can see by his superb form and balance in this one arm handstand.  While this skill is extremely advanced, the basic handstand is something that students of all ages and abilities can learn.
As a foundational skill in gymnastics, the correct technique is critical because it carries over into the higher level skills.  Performing an ideal handstand requires a great deal of balance, strength & body control.
Although all ATA classes include handstand practice, there is going to be a stronger emphasis on this skill during the month of April.  Depending on the level, students will work on a variety of drills and skills that will help to perfect and build upon the all-important handstand!

April's Safety Tip
Keeping hydrated is always important.  As warmer weather approaches, it is even more critical that your child drinks plenty of water throughout the day. Purchase a reusable water bottle in your child's favorite color/design and encourage them to take it everywhere...school, gymnastics, park, pool, etc.  Encourage them to drink and refill it as often as possible.

Spring Break Gym Closure
ATA will be closed April 18 to the 20th for Spring Break. Classes will resume on Friday April 21st.  Just a reminder, make ups are not needed for these scheduled days off as tuition is based on an  approximate average of 4 classes a month over a 1 year period.
Teddy Bear Picnic

During the weeks of Tues. April 4th through Mon. April 17th, ATA will be spreading out the picnic blanket and inviting all Intro Tumblers (4-6 yrs) to bring along their favorite furry friend.  From teddy bears & giraffes to puppies & elephants; all are welcome!
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD'S STUFFED ANIMAL IS SOFT & SMALL ENOUGH TO DO GYMNASTICS SKILLS WITH!
***Stuffed animals should be no larger than the one shown to the left.

Acrobatic Gymnastics Team

March again proved to be a hectic and busy month!  Team ATA shined at the 22nd Annual Silicon Valley Classic, our home meet!  ATA prides itself on having the best local meet in the region, and we surely didn't disappoint!!  Our meet played host to over 200 athletes from 8 clubs across the region!  Many pairs and trios are preparing for international competition in Las Vegas the end of the month.  You could truly feel the focus and energy these athletes projected throughout the competition.

Saturday night, we once again showcased Acro to our recreational athletes and families at our Annual Spring Celebration Show!  Coaches were proud to show off the progress of our developmental athletes at such a special event!  It was a great opportunity to gain extra experience in front of a large crowd!
