THE COALITION CONNECTION
April 14, 2017
Dear NCGS Community,

NCGS is connecting girls' school educators from around the globe June 25-27, 2017, in Washington, DC, for the Education Innovation: Building Cultures of Creativity Conference. Together, we will explore the question, "What's next in innovation for girls?" But first, we asked our students what innovation means to them:

Enjoy this brief 1 minute and 30 second video!

There's only one week left to register for the conference at the early bird rate, which expires on Monday, April 24. Click here to register today.

No matter your role -- be it a classroom teacher or an administrator, a development officer or a school counselor -- there will be offerings for anyone who works with girls. In addition to engaging in  keynote and featured speakers and peer-led Extended Explorations, Innovation Odysseys, and INSPIRE! and SNAP! sessions, you can:
  • Network and share ideas with hundreds of educators from coed and girls' schools from the U.S. and around the world, including Australia, Canada, Colombia, Japan, New Zealand, the Philippines, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
  • Try out the latest in VR (virtual reality) and explore its endless possibilities for expanding education (generously provided by zSpace).
  • Experience the power of a Portal (generously provided by Shared_Studios) and imagine the ways it could broaden your students' horizons.
The world continues to become increasingly interconnected, and at the same time, it is changing faster and faster every day. In many ways, these are the defining characteristics of the start of the 21st century. Along with the many positive outcomes of this reality, there are also some inherent challenges. No longer can there be the expectation that an action in one place will not have a ripple effect elsewhere. Nor can we assume a fixed mindset to address a challenge, and instead must iterate to remain current, relevant, and effective. We are hurtling toward a future where we will undoubtedly need innovative solutions to large-scale problems, the tackling of which will require skills like collaboration, communication, and empathy -- skills that abound at girls' schools.

How can we create learning environments and experiences that model the innovation we want to inspire in girls? How do we make the world our classroom without leaving the school building? How can we help girls understand and celebrate the innate power they possess to effect change?

Join us as we answer these -- and many more -- exciting questions at the Education Innovation Conference. Don't miss out on the early bird rate. Click here for rate information and to register today!

A discounted, limited room block is available at the host hotel, Marriott Wardman Park, and rooms are filling quickly. Please click here for hotel information and to reserve your room.

We look forward to seeing you in beautiful Washington, DC!

Final Reminder: Student Video Submissions Needed

Would you like to see your students featured in the full-length version of the Education Innovation video (see above)? It's not too late!

We are asking our member schools to contribute to this project by selecting students to answer two questions: what innovation means to them and what innovations are happening at their girls' school. Click here for filming and submission instructions, including a media release form. Video submissions can be easily uploaded to the NCGS Videos Google Drive.

Submissions are due by May 1, 2017.

The final video will be featured at the 2017 NCGS Conference, Education Innovation: Building Cultures of Creativity .
Reminder: 2017 Enrollment Surveys Available

Has your admissions office ever wondered why an accepted family chose to enroll at one of your peer institutions instead of your own? Does your Head of School have the data needed to talk quantitatively about your 2017-2018 enrollment numbers at upcoming board meetings? It's not too late to take advantage of the NCGS Enrollment Surveys -- a simple, cost-effective way to gather this data!

The 2017 set of three online surveys for your enrolling, non-enrolling, and inquiry families is available until May 1. Each survey is customized with your school's logo and desired survey deadline. You may also add up to five school-specific questions.

Enrollment surveys are available exclusively to NCGS member schools for only $350. Click here for more details. Contact Olivia Haas by May 1, 2017, to take advantage of this opportunity.

Foxcroft School Hosting Drone Workshop for Educators

Foxcroft School is partnering with Kashmir World Foundation to host the 2nd annual "Teachers Take Flight" drone practicum. Offered August 7-10, 2017, workshop participants will fabricate, operate, and customize unmanned aerial systems embedded with single board computers and artificial intelligence to execute mission-focused projects to solve real world problems that inspire students.

Teachers will also learn ways to use the drones in the classroom, motivating students to integrate science, technology, engineering, and math skills in addressing environmental or humanitarian issues. The workshop promotes open collaboration on curriculum and projects as participants not only acquire and share knowledge, but also become part of a network of "Teachers Take Flight" participants across the nation.

Girl Up 2017 Leadership Summit

Summer break is just around the corner, which means Girl Up advocates from around the world are getting ready to unite in Washington, DC, for the 6th annual Girl Up Leadership Summit.

At the Leadership Summit, girls take center stage -- literally. At this "by girls, for girls" summit, the goal is for participants to leave feeling empowered, creative, and mobilized to seize every opportunity to make the world a better place for girls.

From July 17-19, the Girl Up Leadership Summit will connect over 300 girl activists to learn and lead. During these three days, participants will hear from inspirational leaders and influencers, while directly participating in hands-on learning opportunities with girl experts. On the final day, the girls join other young change-makers to lead an official advocacy day with members of Congress on Capitol Hill, calling on lawmakers to support girls everywhere.
