EBMUD Diablo Vista Pumping Plant Construction EBMUD Diablo Vista Pumping Plant Construction Update April 2017

Work continues at the Diablo Vista Pumping Plant project site located at the corner of Mount Diablo Blvd. and Mount Diablo Ct. So far, below ground drainage, electrical conduits and water lines have been installed and soil was placed to backfill and level the ground. Inside the new pump house, water pump and piping installation is nearing completion and roofing is underway.

Roof deck installation will begin the week of April 17. Please do not be alarmed if you hear loud "popping" sounds during day time work hours in the vicinity of the new pumping plant - the sounds are from fastening tools used to install the metal roof.

Given the wet weather and other unforeseen conditions, EBMUD's contractor will continue working on Saturdays through the summer to complete the job by the end of 2017. Saturday work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with louder activities starting after 8 a.m. Regular weekday work hours for the project are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Construction will continue through fall 2017. Once the new structure is complete, electrical and mechanical systems will be tested and the new Diablo Vista Pumping Plant will be placed online to pump water to your community. The old pumping plant on Mount Diablo Blvd., near Carol Ln., will then be taken out of service and demolished.

Community Forum on Racial Bias and Procedural Justice

Tuesday, April 18, 7pm, Lafayette Veterans Memorial Bldg., 3780 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

There are lots of issues that affect local policing across America today.  Being aware of those issues and making sure that we are doing the best we can to address them is certainly one of my duties.  A couple of years ago, for instance, we took a look at the training that our officers receive for interacting with individuals with mental health issues.  It became apparent that we needed to sharpen our skills, so we invested in that type of training.  I see the value of that training now when I watch our officers and how skillfully they interact with those who may be in crisis.  In fact, that training was so successful that it is now "routine" for all of our officers, and it has made a difference for us.  Another area where officers receive special training:  understanding inherent bias and how it affects all of us.  When I mentioned this to the members of the Crime Prevention Commission, they were intrigued and asked if it was possible to have a community meeting on this topic, with the purpose to bring officers and the community together to talk about bias and how it manifests on the streets and in the community.  Sounds like a great idea to me!  Why?  Because the more we talk about our difficult issues, the more likely we are to solve them.  We've found a great group who will facilitate this community forum for us, and I hope you'll take a little time out of your busy schedule to participate.  The Forum on Racial Bias and Procedural Justice will take place at the Veterans Hall on Tuesday, April 18 at 7pm.
