Greetings!,
Pinellas County is event packed almost every day and night of the year. One struggles with what to do and how to spend your free time with all the abundant events that we have around us. This weekend was no different and I chose to catch Jay Leno at the Capitol Theatre and a VIP invite to the Firestone Grand Prix races in St. Pete. Jay was so funny and I laughed so hard, I can't wait for an opportunity to see him again. His show opened with Henry Gross a founding member of the Rock & Roll revival band Sha Na Na and he performed at Woodstock, too. This guy was fabulous and was a delightful surprise to the opening of Jay's comedy show. It was off to the races on Sunday and what a grand time it was. Visit St. Pete-Clearwater was there in front of the gate greeting arrivals and promoting our county to all the race fans. I was so impressed with the attendance and the enthusiasm of the people who come for this race. People from all over the world were here and saw it televised...what a gorgeous day to have our area showcased to the world. One of our Chamber members invited me to join their Race Party right on the front line. Being on the track for the race spoils one for any other way to watch the action.

I thank all those who make events in our area possible. I know how hard we work to produce the events that we do here at our Chamber so I am most respectful of others who do the same. It is so much fun to attend an event that I got to go and just enjoy, which I did very much. Thank you! Darlene Kole |

One Lucky Pup
The Chamber got a special visit last Friday from a very cute, very furry friend! Emma! You may have read our article that we shared a few weeks back about her very sad beginning with a happy ending. Juli Norberg, Pier House 60 Marina Hotel, and her husband Rick Norberg, Jimmy's Fish House in the Holiday Inn and Suites, adopted little Emma a few months ago after deciding to take her in as a foster pet. Recently, Emma got sick but was healed thanks to a very dedicated veterinarian, Dr. Carlos Pola, at Enterprise Road Animal Hospital. "He is so amazing!", exclaimed Juli, as she shared with the Chamber about Dr. Pola's idea to bring Emma back to health. Dr. Pola, when discovering how sick Emma was told Juli he would like to give her around the clock care. He took Emma for two weeks and fed her, bathed her, woke up in the middle of the night to feed and help her. It is so wonderful to know that there are people who truly care in the veterinarian field and would bend over backward to help a small animal in need of a little TLC.

This year's theme,
"Iconic Hollywood Movies"
featuring iconic movie characters & scenes
The Clearwater Beach Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring last year's winning sand sculptor this year! Please go out and show your support for Patrick Harsch!
A little about Patrick:
Patrick started sculpting sand 17 & years ago on an event with Team Sandtastic for Disney creating a "Sandta Throne" scene as a photo op for guests.
Since then professional sand sculpture has been his primary occupation [save for a stint in Orlando crafting sets and props for the entertainment industry]. Professional sand sculpting has taking him to many Caribbean Islands, Mexico, the Mideast, Asia and all throughout the US creating projects that cause extensive media coverage & foot traffic.
Many Clearwater locals will know his work as the sand sculptor at the Florida State Fair for past years. He's a Clearwater resident and Clearwater Beach is his hometown beach.

From Donna's Corner of The Beach...
Ode to the Beach
Tanning, reddening, shining bodies--no two bathing suits alike.
Lying on pure white sugar sand--backdrop for vacationers.
Scents of sunscreen wafting through warm, moist atmosphere.
Frisbees, footballs flying past heads of sandy, scarfed or hatted hair.
Sounds of steel drums, rock, rap, country----and squeals of children dashing into briny surf.
Conversations in English, Spanish, Dutch, German, Chinese, Farsi, and tongues undecipherable.
Laughter abounds. This is our beach. Join me here...
With sand between my toes,
donna
