MESSAGE FROM WSCA PRESIDENT, TONY PARKER

WSCA President
Tony Parker CEC, ACE

APRIL 2014

It has been a busy March and April with the practical exams, the Washington State Beef Commission seminar and the Bite of the Apprenticeship.

I would like to thank RTC for having the Bite at their location again this year. It is not an easy event with all the logistics and apprentices working to put out their best but, they always come through. Thank you John and your staff for all you do. Another thanks to RTC for hosting the Washington State Beef Commission seminar as well 2 days before the bite.  Another great learning experience and opportunity to get non-member professionals here to see our organization.

Two of our apprentices were recognized at the event for completing their program. The Chaine des Rotissieurs presented a check to the apprenticeship signifying their continued support of the program.  Awards given at the Bite were:  Best School-Bellingham Technical College.  Best Apprentice-Mirabella.  Peoples Choice Award-Mirabella.

Special Olympics Volunteer Event - May 2014

The big event on the horizon is the annual Special Olympics summer games volunteer event that takes place at the end of May.  The Chef's Association has the contract to build 6500 sack lunches and deliver to the JBLM on May 31st.  This year Bates Tacoma campus will be the host site for the building of these sack lunches.  This is a very large undertaking and many volunteers are needed to make this a successful event.  The monies received from this yearly event help fund the scholarships and competition help given to our local members traveling to regional and national conferences.  Please make sure you are reaching out to chef JJ and chef Roger at Bates to help support this fundraiser. If you would like to volunteer, please e-mail JJ Meland with your name and which day (or both) that you can help. View more info below...

Volunteer Appreciation Event - June 2014

We are almost to the summer break and are planning a great dinner at the Muckleshoot Casino in June to celebrate.  Let's finish with a great Special Olympics volunteer event and enjoy the summer.
