April 2015

Yay!!!  Spring is here!!!  Just need to keep that warmer weather coming.  We have been blessed with beautiful blue skies but have had enough of the cold.  We're almost there. Easter is just around the corner and the gallery will be closed on April 3rd and 5th but will be open for business on Saturday the 4th.

We had a lot of people snuggle inside at the opening of our 2nd Annual Juried Show for the Halton Peel Artists on March 15th.  The exhibition is still open and has been extended to Saturday, May 2nd.  There has been a high level of attendance and a lot of positive comments about the show.  Our jurors, Shirley Erskine and Dick Rampen did a terrific job in narrowing down 92 en tries to 55 selections. Please don't miss this exhibition.

EXCITING!!  There has been a lot going on at the Centre and we are happy to present some N ew Programs.  If you are looking to experience peace and health in body, mind and spirit, or perhaps you have mobility issues, you will love these programs.  Here's what is new, starting late April and early May:
  • Hatha Yoga
  • Chair Yoga
  • Healing Meditation Circle
  • The Power of Mindful Meditation
  • Dream Workshop
The centre is a wonderful, soothing, healing place to experience the benefits of yoga, meditation and dream interpretation.   Please scroll below, or click on the link under "In this Issue" to the right of this segment, for more details on these rejuvenating, enlightening, healing workshops.

Also, back by
popular demand is the Photography Workshop designed for those people who would love to learn more about their Point and Shoot and DSLR cameras.  Bill Ellis will be instructing another of his very successful Photography Workshops, which is a great series, taking place over four evenings starting May 5th. This workshop provides you with increased awareness and confidence in using your digital camera. Please scroll below  to "Upcoming Workshops" for more details.

Starting May 8th, with a May 10th opening reception, the Artists of Joshua Creek will be displaying their collective artwork. P lease see  "Upcoming Exhibitions"  segment below for more information.

In  July, we have an exciting  4 day workshop (from the 22nd to 25th) led by  Fábio Cembranelli.  The workshop is selling out.   Please see "Upcoming Workshops"  segment below for additional details.

Last month, I mentioned a documentary that looks at three Canadian Artists who have given their lives to practice art in many forms and in different media. If you haven't seen it, this video is worth watching and circles around Sybil Rampen and the Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre.  Next time you're at the gallery, please ask to see it or click Elder Art Video to hear Sybil speak and view this amazing documentary.

NOTE - PROGRAM CHANGES:
Nia : No Classes April 2 and 6
Watercolour Printmaking Workshop: Cancelled April 18
Laughter Yoga: Postponed till further notice.

From all of us at Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre, we sincerely wish you and your families a Happy Easter and Happy Spring !!

FUTURE EXHIBITION
Joshua Creek Annual Spring Show

May 8th to June 21st
Opening Tea Party
Sunday May 10th
2 pm - 5 pm

Each year Joshua Creek invites the talented students of Joshua Creek Studio to share their art and heart of creating by exhibiting in the JCHAC Spring Show.

Twenty years ago a new medium using nontoxic watercolor printmaking was invented at Joshua Creek. Since its inception it has been refined and the technique expanded upon. Artists invent, explore  and experiment with wet colour on a rigid surface. Rolling the plate through the press and printing images is only the beginning. The ensuing masterpieces evolve and become treasured pieces of art.

Extraordinary art is created in the dynamic, innovative and inspiring environment of the Studio. We share it with you in our exhibition.
