April 2015 Newsletter
Letter from the Board

Dear Chapter Members,

As we enter Spring, I can't help but think it's a time for new beginnings.

Last year I seized the opportunity to jump 'on board' when a vacancy became available, with the mindset that it is up to each and every one of us to contribute and be a part of our re-growth for the benefit of us all; and I feel we're off to a great start.

As an organization we are in the midst of celebrating our 40th year, and as a chapter we have much to be excited about such as the ANDYZ Awards, taking place during Summer Market in Las Vegas.

With the recent election behind us, I have a fresh outlook toward serving you this next year. This is your chapter, and your board welcomes your input and ideas. We invite you to become a part of this exciting year by joining us for our events, and remind you also to take advantage of the opportunity to earn available CEUs, as they are due by the end of this year. With the implementation of Eventbrite, it's easier than ever to sign up and pay for events... just another way we are looking to better serve you.

I invite each and every one of you to use this time to reflect on ways you can support and get involved at the chapter level.

Remember to plant seeds... you never know what beauty abounds by your actions.

HAVE A BEAUTIFUL SPRING!

Design Community Coordinators Needed!
We are in need of DCC's (Design Community Coordinators) for Fresno & Sacramento Area's.  If your area isn't holding events and you want to change that, here's your chance to get involved!  The DCC's job is to help organize events for members by finding a location, sponsor, and a speaker for the event.  If you think you'd like to take on the position or would like to be the DCC for just one event, contact Cindy Collins at [email protected] for more information.

Students
Senior Student Spotlight.....

As students of design we tend to see things in unique ways, our mind not yet blocked with the restrictions of codes and laws. We are always looking towards the future and creating worlds unlike our own. We express ourselves in creative ways and look towards innovative ideas for inspiration. Yet, as we approach the latter part of the semester, we begin to recall what has brought us to this point and look towards future endeavors. We are asked questions that seek to justify our career choices, or explain why we have chosen the design profession. Through my years as a student I have heard many answers to these questions, yet they all seem to have the same intentions. At the root of it we want to use our love for design to inspire people. We want our designs to be places of inspiration, spaces that people gravitate towards.  I recently asked a student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), "Where does your love for design come from?" In her reply below we might find our own reflection, as many of us see our love for design in a similar light.   Over the next few months I will ask other students similar questions reflecting on their journey through Design School and what drove them there.

Senior Student Spotlight.....

Where does your love for design come from?

My love for design comes from the beauty that surrounds me. I love that design allows you to use colors, patterns and textures to tell a story and that you can create a built interior environments that evokes emotion. I feel blessed that I am able to see the world in a different way and can use that talent to give back to the community through design. For me design is my passion and a way for me to dream big. I hope that one day that I can inspire others to do what they love and love what they do.
