"A loving hand" illustrated by Kathleen Stemler

A Loving Hand, the perfect depiction of why CASI does what it  does...homeless animals need our help.

In Carson City, helping includes constructing a shelter that can
meet the needs of a community of this size. The journey of raising money and support has at times  been difficult. Getting CASI off the ground as a non-profit meant gaining public trust and volunteers, and wow, did we ever! Now, it's about keeping the energy level high through active participation, attendance at CASI fundraisers, helping with outreach, and building our membership. Even with the disappointment of not being able to break ground as quickly as we had all hoped, the City is committed to getting this new shelter built.
On Monday, CASI attended a meeting at Public Works, the focus being
the difficult cost cutting decisions that must be made in order to stay on budget. In spite of hard choices, the needs of the animals remained at the forefront of the discussion. Because of your support and involvement, CASI is providing a loving hand as we work toward getting this project off the ground.

We thank you as we continue this incredible journey of
Building Shelter, Building Community.

Allergies in Dogs

Allergens can be problematic when inhaled, ingested or when they come in contact with a dog's skin.
Dogs can have allergies to trees, grass and pollens, mold spores, dust and house dust mites, dander, feathers, cigarette smoke, food ingredients, fleas and flea-control products, perfumes, cleaning products,  fabrics, insecticidal shampoo, rubber or plastic materials, all of which can cause discomfort from itchy skin. Some allergic dogs develop ear infections, vomiting and diarrhea.

If you suspect your dog has an allergy, visit your veterinarian immediately to determine the source of your dog's allergic reaction and treat it.

A healthy dog is a happy dog!

It's Kitten Season!!!

Litters of underage or orphaned kittens are showing up at our shelter almost everyday. Most are still bottle babies, meaning they need a foster home where they have to be bottle fed every 3-4 hours until they start eating on their own.

The shelter is looking for foster families in Carson City who are willing to take these little guys in until they are old enough to be spayed/neutered and put up for adoption. NHS will provide everything they need and will gladly train interested parties on how to care for these kittens. Please contact our shelter at 887-2171 if you are interested.

Meet Patches!

Some call me pampered, but I'm just a gal who knows what she likes. A lap to sit on? Most definitely. Endless pats? Without a doubt. A steady flow of treats and attention? Why sure, if you are offering! Joking aside, I really am a very sweet and affectionate one year old, spayed female that is looking for a sweet owner who I can spend my time with and shower with affection.
Could that be you?

Meet Ruby AKA Miss Piggy

(and you can see why!).

Ruby is a six year old, spayed female pitbull, who was an owner surrender. This adorable thing is our new shelter favorite!! Ruby is truly wonderful and very deserving of only the best. She loves to go for walks and is very well behaved on the leash.  Ruby will need to meet children under the age of six prior to adoption. No cats for her and if you have other dogs they would need a face to face prior to adoption. Please spread the word or consider this amazing four legged lovebug for your family.

The animal shelter and NHS are getting started on TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) in Carson City.  They are looking for volunteers interested  in becoming part of the project.  Please contact the shelter or email at  C [email protected]  to learn more about how you can help.
