Dream League and Skeeters

 honoring

Michael "Big Mike" Garcia

The May 22 Dream League All Star game will be very special.  The game, of course, will be great with 30 of the 120 regular season players involved in the game.  In addition, it will be even more incredible in that the Dream League and Skeeters will be honoring Michael "Big Mike" Garcia, who is not only a Senior Dream League player but also the Skeeters batboy since the team began, and member of The Arc.  Mike will be honored with a really special "Big Mike" bobblehead!  The bobblehead will be a gift to up to 500 fans who stay for at least the first inning of the Dream League AllStar game, which follows the Skeeters game on May 22.  Memorial Hermann Hospital System is sponsoring the Dream League game and the bobblehead.  One of the Dream League's major sponsors, the Deacons of Deadwood motorcycle club, will ride their Harley's around the perimeter of Constellation Field prior to the Skeeters game and they will be led by "Big Mike" riding parade style on the back of Lobue's vintage Corvette.  Mike will also throw out the first pitch.  Mayor Thompson and U.S. Rep. Pete Olson, both long-time supporters & cheerleaders of the Dream League, will be there to honor the League and Mike.

Tyler Sims Selected for Unified Sports Soccer Team

Houston Dynamo, Special Olympics Texas
Team Up for
Unified Sports Soccer

Article compliments of:

The Houston Dynamo and Special Olympics Texas have partnered to create the first  Dynamo Unified Team.

The Dynamo Unified Team will practice every Tuesday from 6:00-8:00pm at Tegeler Career Center in Pasadena. Dynamo and Houston Dash players and coaches will assist at practices, culminating with a match against Sporting Kansas City Unified on Sunday, May 8 at 9:00am at Houston Sports Park. The match is free and open to the public, and fans are encouraged to come out and support both teams.

Both teams will attend the Dynamo home match vs. Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, May 7 (TICKETS) ahead of their own game the following morning.

The Dynamo and Special Olympics Texas joined together as part of a larger partnership with MLS WORKS, Major League Soccer's community outreach imitative, and Special Olympics North America. The Dynamo and Special Olympics Texas are collaborating to leverage the power of sports to promote an environment of social inclusion and acceptance by uniting people with and without intellectual disabilities through Special Olympics Unified Sports.

The match between these two teams will showcase the Unified Sports exchange program that is the cornerstone of the ongoing partnership between MLS and Special Olympics North America.  Through the Unified Sports soccer exchange program, Unified soccer teams from MLS cities travel to other MLS markets to receive training from MLS players and coaches, as well as compete in exhibition matches with their Special Olympics counterparts in that MLS market.  Unified matches are scheduled in conjunction with MLS club matches.
