SandSational Riverside
Riverside Park Conservancy
Date/Time: Saturday, April 9, 10am - 1pm
Location: Volunteers are needed at the following locations:

- Hippo Playground (91st Street)
- Dinosaur Playground (97th Street)

- Claremont 'Dolphin' Playground (124th Street behind Grant's Tomb)
- Riverbank 'Camel' Playground (143rd Street)
Fresh sand means one thing in Riverside Park: Spring! Help start the season off right by volunteering to help move new sand into your playground's sandbox. SandSational Riverside begins with a family bucket brigade, followed by parents and adults completing the job. Riverside Park Conservancy will provide pails and shovels for kids.
Ages: All ages, an adult must accompany children.
Time Commitment: Three hours

Passover Package Delivery

Date/Time: Sunday April 10, 10am - noon
Location: Manhattan
Brighten the day of a senior! Celebrate the Jewish holiday of Passover by delivering gifts of food to our older friends in the community.
Ages: Families with children ages 4 - 12 are welcome to participate.
Time Commitment: Two hours

Annual Hippo Playground Project Spring Fair
Hippo Playground Riverside Park NYC
Date/Time: Sunday, May 1. There are multiple 90 minute shifts available. You may sign up for one or more shifts:
- 10 - 11:30 am
- 11:30 - 1 pm
- 1 - 2:30 pm
- 2:30 - 4 pm
Location: Hippo Playground - entrance is at Riverside and 91st Street
Volunteer as a family at the Annual Hippo Playground Project Spring Fair. Volunteers are needed to take tickets, distribute prizes and assist young children with fair activities and games like spin art, face painting, flower pot painting, cupcake decorating, ball toss, etc. Funds raised will be used to maintain the Hippo Playground.
Ages: Everyone is welcome to volunteer; parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. An adult must accompany children between the ages of 8-14. Teens 15 years and up may volunteer alone.
Time Commitment: Shifts are 90 minutes.

Birthday Party for Homeless Children
Celebrate U & Homes for the Homeless
Date/Time: Friday, April 8, 4 - 6pm
Location: Prospect Family Inn at 730 Kelly Street, Bronx
Founded in 2014 in New York by two teens, Talia Eskenazi and Chase Kauder, Celebrate U is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to spread happiness by throwing birthday parties for disadvantaged children who live in underserved communities. The effect of these celebrations goes way beyond cake and party favors. Celebrate U believes that by showing children that their community truly cares about them, it can raise self-esteem, provide hope for a brighter future and empower children. The children at this month's party will be from Homes for the Homeless. The mission of Homes for the Homeless is to help create lasting solutions for families experiencing homelessness through self-sufficiency planning, goal setting, and achievement. They strive to accomplish this mission by developing practical skills such as financial literacy and job readiness for parents while enriching the lives of children through educational programs, youth development, and fun recreational activities, all the while paving the path for families to move forward.
Ages: Children in 6th grade and older may participate alone; 5th graders and younger may participate if accompanied by a parent.
Time Commitment: Two hours

Garden Volunteer Session, Mad Fun Farm

Date/Time: Saturday, April 2 and/or Saturday, April 16, 10 am - 1 pm

- April 2; Mad Fun Farm (Meet at 1775 Third Avenue at 98th Street and Third Avenue just east of the flag pole within Washington Houses)
- April 16; Jefferson Gardens (Meet at 300 East 115th Street just east of Second Avenue outside of the Jefferson Houses Management Office)
Join Concrete Safaris to help clean and beautify these community gardens. Tasks may include: shoveling topsoil and wood chips, composting, creating paths, planting, raking, weeding and more. Dress in layers and bring a water bottle
Ages: All ages; an adult must accompany children

9/11 Memorial 5K Run/Walk and Family Day
National September 11 Memorial and Museum
Date/Time: Sunday, April 24. 5K events begin at 8am. Family Day activities run from 9am to 2pm.
Location: Run/Walk begins at Pier 26; Family Day will be held on Greenwich Street, between Cortland and Liberty, adjacent to the 9/11 Memorial Plaza
The 911 Memorial is sponsoring the annual 5K Run/Walk and Family Day to raise awareness about the National September 11 Memorial and Museum and to encourage volunteerism in memory of 9/11. Following the 5K Run/Walk, Family Day festivities will include entertainment and meaningful activities for all ages, food and refreshments. The free event will also offer information about the Memorial and Museum and ways to learn about volunteer opportunities.
Pre-registration and a fee are required for participating in the 5K, and there are adult, teen and child divisions. The Family Day event is free and does not require registration.

Meal Delivery
Citymeals on Wheels
Date/Time: Seven days per week, various time slots are available.
Location: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx
Citymeals on Wheels provides a continuous lifeline of nourishing meals and vital companionship to New York City's homebound elderly. You and your family can help by delivering meals. Meal recipients look forward to these essential meals; the personal visits that come with them help further brighten their days. Volunteers must
complete an application and attend an orientation before they are able to volunteer.
Ages: All ages, however an adult MUST accompany anyone younger than 16 years old.
Time Commitment: Three to four hours

Keeping It Green For Families
Central Park Conservancy
Date/Time: Sundays, April 10 and/or April 24, 10am - noon
Location: Central Park
Spring is FINALLY HERE! Spend quality time with your family helping keep Central Park green. Environmental educators will lead mulching and leaf-raking projects throughout the Park. Close-toe shoes are required. This program is for families only; no groups. This program is made possible by the GM Foundation.
Ages: Families only, maximum of 3 children per parent/guardian; no groups. Children need to be age 5 or older. An adult must accompany all children under age 18.

NY Cares Day - Spring 2016
NY Cares
Date/Time: Saturday, April 16, 9:30 am - 2pm
Location: Throughout the five boroughs
Make NYC a Cleaner and Greener Place to Live! Take part in New York City's largest hands-on spring-cleaning event, and join more than 4,000 volunteers to revitalize the city's public outdoor spaces. This year, volunteers will clean up shorelines, restore garden beds, plant flowers and trees, paint benches, and remove invasive species. By the end of the day, 70 parks and gardens in all 5 boroughs will be transformed.
Ages: Ages 14 and up, accompanied by an adult at all times. Youth between 14 and 17 may also participate as part of a Youth Team and all participants must have a
signed parental consent form.
Time Commitment: Approximately six hours

Forest Restoration
Van Cortlandt Park Conservancy
Date/Time: Saturday, April 16, 10am - 1pm
Location: Meet at VCP Nature Center, east of 246th Street and Broadway
Join the Van Cortlandt Park Conservancy and help clean up and restore the park after a long winter. Please dress for weather - long sleeves, long pants, solid footwear - and clothes you don't mind getting dirty.
Ages: Everyone can participate
