Doing Good Together

Join us as we celebrate creating ripples of kindness and building family traditions of caring at our annual fundraising event. Learn more about our organization while enjoying the company of others interested in raising compassionate children through family service. Everyone is welcome (and encouraged!) to attend. We'll be featuring:

Mentor a Child
Kids 'n Kinship

Location: Your home or the community.
Kids 'n Kinship matches volunteer mentor families, couples, & individuals with youth ages 5-16 in need of additional positive role models for fun and enriching weekly activities. Mentoring Works! Please consider stepping forward today to mentor a child with your family. We are based in Dakota County and have served families in Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Farmington, Lakeville & Rosemount for 42 years. Matches are made based on compatible personalities, ages and interests as well as preferences of both volunteer family and the youth and parent/guardian. Our families say that mentoring together ensures they have weekly family time and that it's easy to include another child with the family activity, whether it's a board game, sledding, a trip to a park, or going to the zoo or a museum. We offer discounted passes to area attractions to make activities more affordable, a 45-minute information session, a 2-hour training session, as well as ongoing training and support. We ask mentors and mentees to commit to a year's time together in order to build their relationship; however, many of our matches become lifelong friendships and our average match is about 3 years. Please consider being a mentor to a child - it is one of the most challenging and rewarding ways to volunteer!
Ages: Mentors are families, couples, or individuals over 21
Time Commitment: One to four hours per week, on your own time (very flexible scheduling: can be weekends, evenings or after school)

Gardening Enthusiasts
Tubman
Date/Time: Flexible, once a week or every two weeks starting in late April

Come make Tubman's garden beautiful! At Tubman, we help more than 40,000 adults and children get the support and information they need to reach their full potential for safe, healthy, stable lives. Come help us brighten our corner of Minneapolis by maintaining a flower garden for our clients and neighbors to enjoy. We need volunteers to take on Spring cleanup, planting, and general maintenance. Bring your creativity and garden tools (or use our garden tools!) This opportunity is perfect for families, a group of families, scouts, or any gardening enthusiast in search of a garden!
Ages: Families of all ages are welcome!
Time Commitment: An hour or two for cleanup and planting at the start of the gardening season and then a quick visit for watering and some light weeding.

Minneapolis Earth Day Cleanup
Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR)
Date/Time: April 23, 9:30am - noon
Location: E 36th St & W River Parkway or E 44th St & W River Parkway, Minneapolis
This family-friendly Earth Day tradition provides an excellent opportunity to get outside and work together to help improve this treasured area. Friends of the Mississippi River have returned to this site year after year and have noticed a dramatic improvement to the area thanks to dedicated volunteers like you! To participate, simply show up at either E 36th St & W River Parkway or E 44th St & W River Parkway to sign-in with FMR staff.
Ages: Everyone can participate
Time Commitment: Up to two and one-half hours

Spring Fling
SteppingStone Theatre for Youth Development
Date/Time: Friday, April 15. There are three shifts:
- Setup crew: 3 - 5:30 pm
- Event crew: 5 - 8:30 pm
- Strike crew: 7 - 9:30 pm
Location: SteppingStone Theatre, 55 Victoria St, St. Paul
Spring Fling is a one of a kind special event with six family-friendly "mini" performances throughout SteppingStone's space, and an opening night performance of The Learning Fairy on our main stage. There are hors d'oeuvres and treats with each performance, plus a live auction featuring some super cool family adventures!
- "Living Sculpture Garden" (Lower Lobby) featuring an outdoor art installation, featuring SteppingStone Theatre students
- "Seussical Scamper Dance" (Studio Space) featuring Dane Stauffer and Sossy Mechanics Brian Sostek and Megan McClellan.
- "Big Baby Beats" (CornerStone Classroom) featuring Carnage the Executioner (Terrell Woods), retelling classic fairy tales infused with Hip-Hop.
- "Adventures of Little Lu" (Main Lobby)- featuring the work of Liz Schachterle in a visual fantasy sequence in the Pillow Fort, an installation in our lobby.
- "Fanciful Flights"(Main Lobby)- featuring Kurt Hunter's marionette performance.
- Main Stage Performance- Open Eye Figure Theatre's The Learning Fairy Created by Zoe Sommers Haas.
Ages: All adults and children 12 and up

Love In(Deed)
Wooddale Church
Date/Time: Saturday, April 23, 9am-noon
Location: Wooddale Church Gym, Door 5, 6630 Shady Oak Road, Eden Prairie.
Join Love In[Deed] in making a difference in the Twin Cities. Just show up, choose from a variety of pre-planned volunteer opportunities, and then go serve the community. Now you can preregister for the site you like best! Each person in your group must be present by 9am the morning of the event or your spot will be opened for others to register. Limits are set for volunteers based on the project and organization. Some spots will be kept available for those who show up the morning of the event.
Ages: Some sites do require a minimum age due to safety concerns or the nature of the work. However, we ensure that there will be sites open to people of all ages.
Time Commitment: Three hours

Rake the Leaves Spring Yard Cleanup
HOME Program of Senior Community Services (SCS)
Date/Time: Seasonal: starting late March (depending upon the weather). Cleanup can be scheduled on either weekdays or weekends.
Location: Exact location TBD in Minneapolis or suburban Hennepin County, depends upon where the senior lives.
Volunteers are needed to help with spring yard cleanup for seniors in Minneapolis and suburban Hennepin County. Improve your health while helping a senior citizen remain independent in their home. You choose the date and time to rake and clean up the yard.
Ages: Families with children ages seven and older. Feel free to sign up multiple times.
Time Commitment: Flexible

Arbor Day Tree Planting
Great River Greening
Date/Time: Friday, April 29, noon-4pm
Location:
Trout Brook Nature Sanctuary, 69 E Jenks Ave, Saint Paul. Be sure to watch for yellow Great River Greening directional and parking signs.
Assist in the third year of restoration on this 42-acre nature sanctuary by planting trees and shrubs along the day lighted Trout Brook. Volunteers continue to work toward transforming this former brownfield into a beautiful sanctuary with prairie, wetlands, streams, and trails - all right in the heart of the city!
Ages: Families are welcome to volunteer
Time Commitment: Four hours

2016 Citywide Spring Cleanup

Each year, hundreds of volunteers gather across Saint Paul for the Citywide Spring Cleanup to pick up garbage that has recently become exposed due to the melting snow. With the help of volunteers, we can remove the trash that accumulates in these natural areas harming wildlife, polluting lakes and rivers and detracting from the beauty of our community. This event is a fun and effective way to improve the natural environment in our local community.
Ages: Everyone can participate
Time Commitment: Up to two and one-half hours

Celebrate Earth Day!

The goal of Earth Day Cleanup is to provide a volunteer experience and environmental education to Minneapolis residents and park users. This annual event involves cleaning Minneapolis parks, neighborhoods, watersheds and water bodies including the Chain of Lakes, Lake Nokomis, Lake Hiawatha, Powderhorn Lake, Diamond Lake, Shingle Creek, and Minnehaha Creek. In past years, volunteers have removed more than 140,000 pounds of garbage from Minneapolis parks. It's easy to get involved. No pre-registration is required! A site coordinator will give you gloves and bags, and tell you where to go and where to leave the trash. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own work gloves, though there will be some gloves available for volunteers who need them. Check in at the registration table to get a bag and instructions indicating where to pick-up and leave trash. A volunteer coordinator will be at each site to assist volunteers and answer any questions.
Ages: Open to all ages
Time Commitment: Up to two and one-half hours. Volunteers can arrive at anytime between 9:30 and noon.

Service Day Saturday
City of Savage
Date/Time: Saturday, April 16, 10am - 3pm
Location: Savage City Hall, 6000 McColl Drive, Savage
Complete fun and meaningful kid-friendly service projects in honor of Global Youth Service Day at Savage's Service Day Saturday. Participants will learn about the needs of local nonprofit organizations while also enjoying complimentary face painting and chair massages. Volunteers can also help those in need by dropping off donations of non-perishable food items, gently used books and toys, brown paper grocery bags, and other items at Savage City Hall on Saturday, or at the Savage Library during the week prior to the event. Groups and individuals may choose to plan their own service projects for the day, and then share the results of their efforts online.

Global Youth Service Day
Minnesota Alliance With Youth

Location: Southdale Center, Edina
Come celebrate youth at this year's Global Youth Service Day event at Southdale Center in Edina. This is a family friendly and FREE event; celebrating youth service in Minnesota. There will be onsite service projects for everyone to plug into and support themes of health, education, and community building, as well as diverse youth performances all afternoon! You and your family are invited to come to serve, be inspired by youth performances from across Minnesota, and be energized by the impact youth make all year through service!
Ages: This is a great event for youth of all ages.
