4/7 West Asheville Park
Come join us on this invasive species removal day. West Asheville park is a treasure trove of these pesky plants. RiverLink will provide all tools and safety equipment. We recommend that volunteers wear long pants and sleeves and bring a water bottle. 

Since it's starting to get warmer please note the time change for this and other Weekday Workday Events.

4/8 Hominy Creek Greenway
This event is organized by the Friends of Hominy Creek Greenway. There're looking for community members to help remove invasives from this beautiful trail. Hominy Creek Greenway is Asheville's only community managed park. All work, except trail mowing, is done by volunteers from the community. 

All equipment will be provided, volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants and sleeves and bring a water bottle. 
Location 
Meet at the tool shed about a hundred yards from the Shelburne Road entrance.

4/13 French Broad Chocolate Lounge Sponsored Creek Cleanup
The season is finally here! Join us for our first stream cleanup of 2017. This event has been generously sponsored by French Broad Chocolate Lounge. They will be providing delicious truffles for all volunteers who come out to help!

We will be getting in the water of Town Branch Creek right outside the River Arts District. This creek averages about 2 ft deep, and is fairly easy to walk in. 

RiverLink will provide tools, and waders for those who want them. Volunteers should wear clothes and shoes they don't mind getting wet.

We will meet in the parking lot of the Self Help Credit Union.

4/26 Azalea Park
We'll be doing more invasive removal this week, but we are going to switch it up a bit. For those that are comfortable with large machinery we will be operating a tiller to dig up kudzu crowns. Don't worry there will be plenty of hand pulling and digging for those who want to keep it simple. 

RiverLink will provide all equipment, volunteers should wear long sleeves and pants and bring a water bottle. 
Location 
We will meet in the large dirt field located between the soccer fields and the dog park.

4/29 Buchi Sponsored River Cleanup
April 23rd - 29th is National Volunteer week, come celebrate with us!

Join RiverLink, Asheville GreenWorks, and Mountain True on our first big river cleanup of the season. This event has been generously sponsored by Buchi Kombucha, who will be providing delicious refreshing drinks for all volunteers who participate.

All boats, paddles, life vests, gloves and other supplies will be provided. Volunteers should wear clothes that can get wet, and bring a water bottle.

This cleanup has limited spaces so sign up fast!

Location 
We will meet here and caravan to Hominy Creek Beach, for easier shuttling at the end of the day.

Earth Day Kids Festival

We're very excited for out 3rd annual Earth Day Festival! We will need some extra hand to make this event run smoothly. 

  • Setup @ 8:00 AM: Help us put up booths, hang art, and generally prepare the festival space.
  • Take down @ 2:00 PM: Help us pack up for the day and clean the event site. 
  • Videographer @ 10:00 AM

The following jobs have a 1st shift (9 - 11:30 AM) and 2nd shift (11:30 - 2 PM). These jobs require a background check which RiverLink will pay for, and a pre-event training date TBD

  • RiverLink education booth: Lead ongoing education with our enviroscape watershed model. 
  • Asheville Adventure Play help: Help monitor kids while they build forts with recycled materials.

Voices of the River Contest Help
We've gotten tons of submissions from young artists for this years contest. We need help throughout the month of April to organize and display these great works.  
  • ~1 hour of contest submission data entry anytime before 4/7. 
  • Organizing prize packages for winning students sometime on 4/17 or 4/18. 
  • Labeling and preparing art for display sometime the week of 4/17

Do your friends tell you, you have a great eye for design? If so we need your help to hang student works at coffee shops and cafes anytime during the week of April 24th in the following areas. 

  • Black Mountain 
  • Asheville
  • Marshall

5/19 Downtown After 5
RiverLink has been selected as one of the benefiting nonprofits for Downtown After 5 this year! As a result, we will receive 25% of the proceeds from sales. We need 26 people to help with wristbands and other tasks for this event.

Volunteers must be 18 or older for this event. More details about this event will come in the coming weeks.
