Health Matters
April 2018 Newsletter
April is Volunteer Recognition Month, and there's no better time to recognize how much our volunteers give every day of the year in time, talent and treasure. These individuals are working across the state to help those who are affected by chronic disease by fundraising, managing workplace campaigns, sharing their personal stories as a speaker, chairing campaigns or serving on one of our three Boards or Leadership Councils.

Did you know?
  • We have more than 250 volunteers who give their time to supporting CHC-NE across the state.
  • Combined, our member charities have more than 21,500 volunteers working on their behalf.
  • There are more than 2,000 donors across the state who are providing funding for medical research, care and support as well as education and advocacy through their valuable contributions.

Thank you for the work you do on behalf of Community Health Charities of Nebraska, our 22 member charities and those they are serving every day. You are making a difference for those in need!
CHC-NE is proud to announce that five of its 22 member charities received the 2018 grants from the Curt Gordon Memorial CHC-NE Foundation. These funds were awarded above and beyond the quarterly distributions that these charities are receiving from CHC-NE, which are provided by donors through the annual statewide campaign. The Foundation Grant Committee awarded $9,000 in grants to these five charities.
Medical Research Update
End-of-Life Care in Nebraska
On Sept. 19, 2017, Nebraska Hospice and Palliative Care Association released the fourth Nebraska End-of-Life Survey Report. The report compiles data from a survey mailed to households across Nebraska in February 2017. A total of 1,128 individuals completed the survey. The report also compares the data with previous end-of-life surveys conducted in 2004, 2007 and 2010, showing trends and changes in residents’ perceptions of the end of life. NHPCA is the only state association in the country to conduct a survey of this type so frequently.
Story of Caring
Celebrating Prom
Autism Action Partnership's Circle of Friends program allows students with autism to learn and practice social skills in a school setting along with peer mentors. This is provided in more than 224 Nebraska schools, including Fremont High School. Last year, Fremont High School's Circle of Friends group attended prom together.
