Project LOASIS ONE MOBILE is a community outreach project for the Connie Hudson Mobile Regional Senior Community Center staff and members to the Senior Citizens of the CITY OF MOBILE. This project’s goal is to love every older adult one recreational activity at a time. The center staff will seek volunteers within its members to create recreational outreach opportunities to different community centers, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and unreached senior citizens within the City of Mobile.
The First Month of Project LOASIS ONE MOBILE included a nail art day and a paint party. On February 7, 2018 Nail Art with Opal went to Elmcroft to paint Mardi Gras Style nail art on the residents. On February 21, 2018 the Carmel Alvis, Art Instructor provided by Mobile County Commission, went to Elmcroft to offer a fun afternoon with the residents along with volunteers from the Connie Hudson Mobile Regional Senior Community Center. “Paint It” at Elmcroft was hosted by the Art Room at Connie Hudson Mobile Regional Senior Community Center. Art Students along with the Art Instructor, Carmel Alvis took pre-drawn canvases to the paint party. Ten seniors, two observers, and three staff members from the center had many laughs while painting butterflies. Kathy Sullivan, staff member at CHMRSCC, stated “it was a joy and a privilege to be involved in this activity and to LOVE other seniors outside our close knit Senior Center and share what we have as a center”.
Ashley-Nicole Flowers, Program Supervisor, comments that “Project LOASIS will be an ongoing effort to reach out to all seniors within the City of Mobile. The Connie Hudson Senior Center has been blessed with members and staff that want to give back to the community along with helping and creating recreational activities for other seniors. It is a privilege to work at a facility of this nature. When creating this project I wanted to show what talent we have at our center and make sure every older adult feels loved and cared for”.
