We Need You!
DGT Silicon Valley Listing Coordinator
Doing Good Together is looking for a volunteer listings coordinator to help us research and curate our monthly family-friendly volunteer listing. The coordinator:
- Researches nonprofits in the Silicon Valley area
- Contacts identified nonprofits, either by email and/or phone, to find out about potential family-friendly volunteer opportunities
- Identifies 5-10 different family-friendly volunteer opportunities each month
- Writes up the opportunities for the Silicon Valley monthly listing
DGT staff will help you with the steps you can take to find those opportunities, answer your questions and provide materials to help you find family-friendly volunteer opportunities in your community.
Time Commitment: Five to ten hours per month. A minimum one-year commitment is preferred.

First Friday of the Month Food Pantry Organization
There With Care of the Bay Area
Date/Time: Friday April 6, 10am - noon
Location: 2682 Middlefield Road, Suite H, Redwood City
There With Care provides a wide range of thoughtful and fundamental services to children and families during the critical phases of a medical crisis. They serve families referred by medical agencies by building a network of services and people who ease the burden of life's day-to-day obligations with compassion and care. Volunteers are needed to help unpack groceries at There With Care's Redwood City warehouse.
Ages: 12 and up with a parent
Time Commitment: Two hours

Great American Litter Pick Up
The Trash Punx
Date/Time: Saturday, April 21, 8am - 12:30pm
- Sign-In & Breakfast: 8 - 8:30am
- Community Clean Up: 8:30 - 11:30am
- Lunch & Celebration: 12 - 12:30pm. (*Off-Site Location)
Location: Santa Teresa High School, 6150 Snell Ave. San José. Meet at the student lot.
Join The Trash Punx team at the Great American Litter Pick Up as we target a specific area of San Jose invaded by litter. Wear closed-toed shoes and bring water, sunscreen, and sunglasses.
Ages: Children ages six and up are welcome with adult supervision.
Time Commitment: Four hours or as long as families can attend.

Great American Litter Pick Up

Date/Time: Saturday, April 21, 8:30 - 1pm
- Registration: 8 - 8:30am
- Clean Up: 8:30 - 11:30am
- Celebration Lunch: Noon - 1pm
Location: Each District is hosting events at various locations. Please see the
event flyer and individual event pages or listings for details.
Help the City of San José clean up litter. To participate and sign up please follow the links to one of the District events listed above. On the day of the event, register at your meeting location and receive litter clean up supplies. At noon, join your Council District Office for a celebration lunch. Lunch is free for volunteers. For those attending a San José public high school, this is a great opportunity to win some money and recognition for your school! The Mayor has challenged San José high schools to get the most number of students out and volunteering on this day of service.
- 1st Place Winner: $1,000
- 2nd Place Winner: $500
- 3rd Place Winner: $250
Students may earn community service hours at the end of this event.
Ages: All ages are welcome. All volunteers must sign a Volunteer Service Agreement form at the event. Volunteers under 18 years of age must have the form signed by a parent/guardian.
Time Commitment: Three to four hours. Families are not required to stay the entire time if it is not possible.

Great American Litter Pick Up
City of Campbell
Date/Time: Saturday, April 21, 9am - noon (Registration from 8:30 - 9am)
Location: Campbell Park, E Campbell Ave & Gilman Ave, Campbell
The cleanup will tentatively focus on the following locations:
- Los Gatos Creek Trail
- Freeway on and off ramps at Camden Avenue and Highway 17
- Along the railroad tracks adjacent to Winchester Blvd. at Hacienda Ave.
- Along the railroad tracks behind Rolling Hills Middle School
Rain or shine, volunteers will be asked to meet at the park at 9am to sign in and then disperse into groups. Instructions on safety and debris removal will be discussed at that time. Gloves, vests and other tools will be available, but volunteers may bring their own gloves and hand tools if they wish. Additionally, work parties will help plant trees, haul and spread playground fibar and sand at Campbell Park. Volunteers are encouraged to dress appropriately for the event. Refreshments will be provided in the morning and the event will conclude with a lunch at noon.
Ages: Children 11 and under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Children 12 and older (with signed consent form) can be there without a parent. Consent forms available at registration.

Location: Starbird Park, Boynton Avenue & Starbird Circle, San José
Celebrate Earth Day with us by joining the Great American Litter Pick Up. Lunch will be provided after the clean-up and is free for volunteers!

Alum Rock Park Earth Day 2018
Alum Rock Park Rangers
Date/Time: Sunday April 22, 9am - 4pm
- Volunteer hours- 9am - 1pm
- Event hours- 1 - 4pm
Location: Alum Rock Park, 15350 Penitencia Creek Road, San José. Parking is $6 or free if you volunteer.
Come join the fun with the Alum Rock Park Rangers and the Youth Science Institute for an Earth Day celebration open to families and friends. We will be giving back to Earth and Alum Rock Park with different volunteer projects from 9am -1pm. Then we will enjoy Earth Day festivities with the Youth Science Institute and Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority from 1-4pm. Participants will learn about local pollinators, sustainable gardening, see live animals, and offset our carbon footprint by planting native seeds and a ceremonial tree at the end of the event.
Ages: All ages are welcome. Volunteers under the age of 16 must have an adult present.
Time Commitment: Flexible - Families are not required to stay and volunteer all 4 hours

Volunteer for the Walk for MS: Silicon Valley
National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Northern CA Chapter
Date/Time: Saturday, April 14, 6am - 1pm (A variety of shifts are available.)
Location: West Arena Green, N. Autumn St., San José
Want to make a difference in the life of someone living with MS? Give us a few hours of your time for one day. You supply the smile and the energy, and we will supply the t-shirt and opportunity. Walk MS is a charity walk series that takes place in over 400 locations. To date we have raised more than $920 million to drive groundbreaking research, provide life-changing programs and guarantee a supportive community for those who need it most. We need assistance with set-up, check-in, t-shirt & food distribution, route support, and assistance at the finish line.
Ages: As long as there is a parent volunteering, a child of any age is welcome to come. If there are minors volunteering, they will need to bring a Volunteer Consent Form signed by a parent or guardian

Volunteer Mentors for Refugee, Immigrant, or Asylee Families or Individuals
At Home Humanitarian
Date/Time: Ongoing
Location: Throughout the Bay Area
At Home Humanitarian is a grassroots effort focused on socially integrating refugees, asylees, and immigrants while building tolerance and understanding throughout their new communities. Our core work focuses on mentor matching, community acculturation events, and providing extracurricular opportunities.
- Help newly arrived people feel "At Home" in their new communities.
- Provide U.S. citizens with opportunities to serve "At Home."
- Guide newly arrived persons through becoming self-sufficient and preparing for prosperous college educations and careers.
- Foster friendships, learning, tolerance, understanding, and healing among all participants
Programs and Volunteer Opportunities:
Mentor + Mentee Matching: Volunteer families can be matched with newly-arrived individuals and families to help answer any questions relating to American culture, customs, processes, laws, or community resources that would help their match feel more connected; help find solutions to needs such as finding a job, preparing for college, filing for FAFSA, fixing a car, or passing a driver's test; and provide opportunities to get out, explore surroundings, make new friends, learn a new skill or hobby, and connect to others within their communities.
Community Acculturation Events: Community managers, mentors, and mentees plan engaging quarterly events. Events can be sponsored by corporations or partner NPOs. Some upcoming events include career panels sponsored by Google, family dinners, beach and sightseeing outings, and a night at a Giants Game.
Ages: All ages are welcome to volunteer. Children 18 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Time Commitment: One-year commitment, 8-10 hours per month

Help the TCV Foodbank
Tri-City Volunteers
Date/Time: Monday through Friday, 8am - 4pm
Location: 37350 Joseph St., Fremont
Volunteers are essential to Tri-City Volunteers food bank's daily grocery cart preparation and distribution. We need approximately 40 warehouse volunteers a day to ensure that as many as 350 client families per day receive adequate nutrition. Volunteers also help us sort and hang donated clothing and attractively merchandise our boutique thrift store, which provides very low-cost items to struggling families. Community volunteers are the heart of our agency. Not only do volunteers work directly with low and very-low income families, they bring to life our vision of a community united together to ensure that every child and adult in our area is not just free from hunger but can access pathways to financial stability and self-sufficiency. While volunteers assist families in Tri-City Volunteers food bank and thrift store, they are also mentoring and deeply connecting with others. That is the real strength of our work.
Ages: Families with children ten and older are welcome to volunteer.
Time Commitment: Minimum of two hours

Beautiful Day Event Weekend

We are a growing group of government agencies, community organizations and people from all walks of life serving others by addressing all sorts of needs across Santa Clara County. Since its inception in 2004, Beautiful Day has sought to invest in communities with simple, direct and unyielding kindness. Each project during the Beautiful Day event weekend is an act of no strings attached service for others.
Kid-Friendly Projects Available:
- Campbell Veterans Memorial & City Hall Campus (Ages 13+)
- Lakewood Park Beautification (All ages welcome)
- Party for Sunnyvale's First Responders (Ages 13+)
- Alpha High School (Ages 13+)

- KidzServe - Beautiful Day 2018 for Kids (Ages Kindergarten - 5th Grade)

Ages: Varies by project. Each child needs to be registered individually on the website. The waiver for minors is included in the online registration process.
