Silence

Did you ever experience a flock of starlings settling nearby on a summer's evening? The volume of their chirping is truly remarkable. For many folks the noise is so distracting they can't find rest without seeking ways to urge the starlings to move on. Perhaps we find it disruptive because it just adds a layer of sound to the already chatty voices inside our heads. Many of us have a constant conversation (known as 'inside speech') going on, which makes it nearly impossible to find moments of rest; silence is illusive. And yet it is in the quiet that we hear God's voice.

We are fortunate this month to have a silent retreat led by the Rev. Martin Smith (see information below). Seeking silence gives us the chance to quiet the noise in our heads and make room for the voice of the Holy One.

One of the beauties of our location is that we are surrounded by relatively little traffic noise and business activity, while still being fairly close to 'civilization'. Why not make a visit to recapture a piece of silence in your life?

If you would like to schedule a retreat, individual or group, please contact the TSC office at 513.771.2171, or send an email to [email protected].
RECOGNIZING THE SPIRIT
a largely silent retreat -- day space available at $50 per day

In this largely silent retreat over the Pentecost weekend our meditations will explore the signs of the Spirit in our lives, deepening our awareness of the ways the Holy Counselor prompts, stirs, attracts, defends, and guides us as we make our way through the opportunities and struggles of everyday life.

Schedule begins with dinner on Friday at 6 pm followed by an opening meditation and beginning a weekend silence. Saturday there will be three meditations. Sunday the silence will be broken as we worship together with the Community of the Transfiguration. During the retreat there will be an opportunity (first come, first serve) to meet with Fr. Martin for an individual conversation.

Scholarships are available.
Cost is $250 for overnight and $50 per day for commuters. Registration is available on line, via email to [email protected], or by phone: 513.771.2717.

Grief Recovery Workshop beginning in August

One of the least acknowledged and
least addressed concerns in our society is:
Grief  (The normal and natural reaction to loss)

Whether your loss is from:
* Death of a loved one * Divorce or end of a relationship
* Loss of career * Loss of a substance dependency
* Loss of trust
* Loss of dreams * Loss of security * Loss of health

Grief will continue to affect our lives and the lives of those around us adversely when
we are forced to accept the many Myths About Grief:

Time heals all wounds
Replace the loss
Grieve alone
Be strong for others
Bury your feelings

This Outreach program will guide those who wish to resolve their loss issues
to move beyond their grief to a richer quality of life.

8-week program will be conducted by
Kay Fraley, M.Ed. M.Div. Certified Grief Recovery® Specialist.

The program is affiliated with and endorsed by The Grief Recovery Institute.
This format has been developed by Russell P. Friedman, Executive Director,  and John W. James, Founder of the Grief Recovery Institute, and authors  of The Grief Recovery Handbook-The Action Program for
Moving Beyond Death, Divorce and Other Losses.

The 8-Week Program will begin
Thursday, August 9, 2018
Time: 2:30PM to 4:30 PM

PLACE:
Transfiguration Spirituality Center
495 Albion Ave., Glendale, OH

On a sunny afternoon near the labyrinth next to the chapel, I came upon a village of 'fairy houses' created by the Bethany School students. The delightful invitation extended to us was to "be quiet..." as we didn't want to disturb the occupants of the houses.

As you walk the steps of your journey, may you find pleasant surprises around corners, and experience the delight of quietude.
