Hot Lunch Announcement - Please remember to order lunches!
Please remember to order a lunch for your child if you would like for them to have a meal from The Lunchmaster lunch service vendor.  We have been experiencing an usually high number of students requesting emergency lunches, some on a regular basis.  If you would like your child to have a served lunch, please order in advance  here.

Attention 7th Graders!
WEB applications are available here now!  The application is due Wednesday, May 3 by 11:59 p.m.
You can also access the application by joining edmodo group, click hereOn this edmodo group, you will see the link to the digital application pinned at the top. You can also find out more information about the WEB program or ask questions.

There is an optional WEB meeting for those interested in the WEB  program on Wednesday April 26 at lunchtime in room D8.  You'll learn about the WEB program for next year and the application process. There will be an opportunity to ask questions or get started on the application if you need a little tech support.

Bring your lunch to D8 for this optional WEB meeting.

Hillview PTO Board Nominations - Attention: Parents of Rising 6th Graders
The Hillview PTO is looking for a capable volunteer to serve as Co-Vice President of the Hillview PTO Board for the 2017-2018 school year. The Board, with parent volunteers, works with Hillview's administrative and teaching staff to create and support vital school programs and events. If you are the parent of a rising sixth grader and want to serve on the board of the Hillview Middle School PTO in this important role, please email PTO Nominating for more information. 

Hillview Book Fair is Coming the week of May 22-25th - Volunteers Needed
Explore new books and stock up for summer reading for the whole family. The Book Fair will offer the Hillview Summer Reading books plus the assigned book for incoming M-A freshman. This year we will also have a hand-picked selection of books for younger elementary siblings. The Book Fair will run from Monday, May 22 - Thursday, May 25. We'll be open each day before school from 8 - 8:30, during brunch and lunch, and for 30 minutes after school. As usual, we'll be open during Hillview's Open House on May 25 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

This is a PTO sponsored event and we need your help. Sign up here  to help with set up on  Friday, May 19 , take down on  Friday, May 26  and to run the registers during the Book Fair.

Re-Enrollment for 2017-18 is due Tuesday, April 25 
Last week all K-7 grade students received their student's re-enrollment notification email for the 2017 -18 school year. Parents are asked to complete their student's re-enrollment no later than Tuesday, April 25. Even though your plans for next year may not be finalized, please complete the re-enrollment process in any case. You always have the option of contacting our Registrar to update your enrollment status.

After April 28, parents who have not completed their student's re-enrollment will be required to schedule an appointment with the registrar to re-verify their student's information and to re-verify residency as part of completing their student's re-enrollment for the 2017-18 school year.

Get Connected: Talking with your Adolescent about Sexual Health

April 24, 2017, 6:30 p.m., Hillview PAC.

This parent-only interactive workshop will be facilitated by Health Connected, the leading provider of puberty and education in San Mateo County schools. The session will 
provide tips and strategies for you, as a parent, to create an environment of comfort and trust with your child to discuss puberty and their emerging sexuality. The workshop is designed for adults who have teens and pre-teens. It is particularly recommended for parents of 5th graders as the same facilitators will be providing a workshop for students in 5th grade.
Childcare available for potty trained children. Light refreshments will be provided.

Sports
Intramural Sports
Intramural sports continue with indoor soccer and hockey which will be played on Wednesday and Thursday. All students are welcome. If there are too many players, we'll rotate. Spectators should stay on the bleachers or stage. As always, no food/drink in gym.
 
After-School Tennis Program 
Practice and matches will resume this week for all players. Matches for all three teams are on this week's schedule.

After-School Boys Volleyball
Second week of League matches for both teams. The  Varsity Team will have three matches. The Jr. Varsity team will have two matches.  

Girls Spring Volleyball Clinic
The Spring Volleyball Clinic for girls continues this Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.

After-School Track
After-School Track continues this week on Monday and Wednesday, April 24 and 26. All participants should be prepared and meet each day at Menlo-Atherton High School from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

May Madness Basketball Clinic
The May Madness Basketball Clinic will continue this Friday, April 21 from 3:15 - 5:30 p.m. in the Hillview Gym for the second session.

Friendly reminder: If anyone has any after school sports uniforms that need to be
returned (basketball, girls volleyball, flag football, track) please do so
immediately.

Questions regarding any of these programs should be directed to Harry Bell, Athletic Director, at 650-483-4049. Scholarships are available for all Hillview supported sports.

On Your Marks, Get R eady - Let's Rock This Early Registration!
Lace up those running shoes for our Schoolhouse Rocks 5K! On May 21, 2017, hundreds of students, families and community members will be hitting the streets of downtown Menlo for the Schoolhouse Rocks 5K run for education. Our new, exciting route has expanded to start at our very own Hillview Middle School and run through the heart of our town. Early online registration opens today for the Schoolhouse Rocks 5K. Register prior to May 4, 2017 to secure the discounted entry fee of $30.00. After May 4, the entry fee will rise to $40.00.

Enter either the 1 mile family walk/run, or the full, chip-timed 5K. Both runs will start at 9:00 a.m. and the course will run down Santa Cruz and the heart of Menlo Park downtown, then wrap around to end at Hillview Middle School where a Wellness Fair will occur after the run. There will be a stretching station, food, family fun and awards!

Consider becoming a Family Sponsor. With a donation of $500 you will receive five race entries and your family or team's name will appear on the race t-shirt. Our families truly ROCK and we couldn't do it without you! 

The Schoolhouse Rocks 5K is being organized by the Menlo Park-Atherton Education Foundation, and the funds raised will support our children's education at Encinal, Hillview, Laurel, and Oak Knoll.

12th Annual Big Bear Run
Save the date! Or at least the morning...the 12th annual  Menlo-Atherton High School Big Bear Run is Sunday, May 7, at 9:00 a.m. sharp.  This 5K walk/run will start and end at Menlo- Atherton High School (neighborhood route blocked for safety, water stations along the way). Prizes will be awarded to those who plan to run and race it. All ages (and strollers) and ability levels welcome. Community Service Opportunities
Learn About All Students Matter:  Wednesday, April 26, 11:00 a.m. You can make a true difference in the life of students in eastern Menlo Park and East Palo Alto by volunteering for an hour a week in the same classroom (K-5) to tutor students in reading, writing, or math. Spanish Immersion for Incoming Kinders - Apply Now!:  Encinal is exploring the possibility of adding a second kindergarten Spanish Immersion class in Fall 2017. There are almost enough families on the district-wide waiting list, but a few more applicants are needed to make a full class and expand access to this excellent program.

Any student who is eligible for kindergarten in the Menlo Park City School District may apply - even if he or she is already registered at another MPCSD school for next year. For more information,  Tami Girsky  or call (650) 321-7140 x5622

FLORAISON by Menlowe Ballet : April 28 - 30, 2017. Menlowe Ballet presents FLORAISON, including a world premiere by Michael Lowe & Sarah-Jane Measor, a new contemporary work choreographed by company dancers Stefanie Maughan and Ali McKeon, and the return of Portraits, honoring real women in history who have touched the world with their the courage and creativity.  Tickets are on sale now!  

Alpine Strikers FC Tryouts: Alpine Strikers FC will hold tryouts for all age groups starting in early May. If your child is excited about soccer and wants to improve on their soccer skills or join a high level team to compete for our club, please click  here for details and registration. Due to Norcal's transfer ban between August 15, 2017 and May 2018, Alpine Strikers will not hold its typical club-wide tryouts in December. Come out now for tryouts to be placed on a team for the fall.

AYSO Fall Soccer Registration:  Registration for AYSO Soccer Fall Season starts on May 1 is here !   Walk-in registration is on May 13 and May 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Hillview Middle School Library. First-time players must register in person. Returning players simply register online. $100 for kinderleague, $150 for first grade and older. All participate, regardless of level (no try-outs). See you on the field!

Fundraiser for Via Services: Via Services has been serving the special needs community since 1945. Join us for a fun-filled Poker Tournament on May 4 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at AutoVino in Menlo Park to raise funds for our programs. For more information, please click here.

Kite Day: 
May 6 12:00 - 4:00 p.m., Bedwell-Bayfront Park. J oin us at Bedwell-Bayfront Park, the best place to fly a kite in Menlo Park, and enjoy an afternoon with kite flying, food, music, spin art, and rockwall climbing. If the wind is just right, you might see the return of "Mega Fish", a 46' giant kite. Volunteers from the Menlo Park Kiwanis will barbecue the hotdogs while Menlo Park staff and volunteers will help you assemble your kite and get it up in the air.

Register Now for Legends Baseball Summer Camps: The Legends Baseball Experience features private and small group instruction, innovative coaching programs combining drills, games and fun competitions ensure your child is building confidence and skills. Weekly camps run June 12 - August 11 in Menlo Park and Redwood City locations  here.

Restless Legs Syndrome StudyDoes your adolescent (age 13 - 17) have Restless Legs Syndrome? If so, he or she  may be eligible to participate in a clinical trial at the Stanford Sleep Medicine Center regarding an investigational medication that may be able to treat his/her condition. Submissions : The deadline to submit for the Sunday Hillview Newsletter is the preceding  Wednesday at noon . Please email your submission to [email protected] . Please note that submissions may be edited for content and/or length. Submissions received after the deadline will be eligible for inclusion the following week. Submissions are eligible to run for up to two weeks.

To submit an announcement for an off-campus community event, please email your announcement to  [email protected]. The submission deadline is  Wednesday at noon for the following Sunday newsletter.
