Who Am I?

My place of birth is:
Toledo, OH

My hobbies are:
Exploring national parks, hiking with my dogs, running, visiting museums, and record shopping.
The last good book I read was:
"The Art of Relevance" by Nina Simon
Device I couldn't live without:
My bullet journal. I live and breathe digital marketing but I still need paper and pen to stay organized.
The reason I got into advertising/marketing:
I have two: growing a brand through visual storytelling and developing creative ways to connect with consumers.
Biggest influences on me professionally:
It's cliché but my parents. They taught me to not only work hard but to find pride in the work that you do and to lift others up along the way.
My greatest unfulfilled ambition is:
Earning that master's degree. It's not too late to go back to school, though.
When nobody's looking, I like to:
Best thing about being an AAF Toledo member:
Discovering the imaginative and innovative creative work that's been done by the marketing and advertising community here in Toledo. It's inspiring.

I am:

Toledo Museum of Art and Madhouse Win Gold at 5th District ADDY Judging
Members of AAF Toledo have won two Gold ADDYs in the 2017 American Advertising Awards (ADDYs) District 5 Competition held March 25 in Columbus, OH. Fifth District consists of  AAF clubs in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia. Local winners Toledo Museum of Art and Madhouse were recognized for the I Approve This Message Exhibition in fall, 2016.

Entries that won Gold ADDY Awards at the local level were automatically entered into the District 5 AAF competition.  Local Silver ADDY Award winning entries were also eligible to enter. All District Gold ADDY winning entries automatically advance to the National ADDY Awards competition.  Winners of National ADDYs will be announced at the 2017 AAF National Conference on June 10 in New Orleans.
About the Award:

The American Advertising Awards (ADDYs), is the advertising industry's largest and most representative competition, attracting over 40,000 entries every year in local AAF competitions. The mission of the American Advertising Awards competition is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising.
Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the local AAF phase is the first of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, all across the country, local entrants vie to win local ADDY Awards - recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local Gold winners compete against other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions. District Gold winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national stage of the American Advertising Awards. Entry in your local AAF competition is the first step toward winning a national ADDY.
Entering the American Advertising Awards supports the entire advertising industry, because the AAF and its local and district affiliates use the proceeds to enhance advertising through public service programs, internships, advocacy groups, advertising education, and consumer awareness.

About 5th District AAF:

AAF Day on the Hill

AAF Day on the Hill
By Michael L. Seay, Incoming District 5 Governor & National Board Member
The American Advertising Federation is committed to protecting and advancing our industry. I had the pleasure of experiencing this first hand, as I attended AAF Day on the Hill in Washington, D.C. in March. My morning started by introducing Congressman Jim Renacci, a Republican from north central Ohio. Congressman Renacci serves in the House of Representatives and is a member of both the Ways and Means and Budget Committees. He also has entered the race to be Governor of Ohio.
After a morning session full of insight into new tax code possibilities that would affect our industry, a presentation on diversity and the ever-changing population of the U.S., and commendations from the Federal Trade Commission regarding our self-regulating Internet of today, we ascended onto Capitol Hill. I was afforded two scheduled meetings with the offices of Representative Bob Latta and Senator Sherrod Brown, followed by two impromptu meetings with the offices of Senator Rob Portman and Representative Marcy Kaptur. With the heated discussion currently centered on the new tax code, my visit was very timely.
The next day was my training day as incoming Governor of District 5 (Ohio, Kentucky & West Virginia). I spent the day at the AAF National Office with my colleagues from around the country. I can share with you that our district and our club here in Toledo are both very strong and regarded very highly by those at AAF National.
I would encourage you all to reach out to your representatives in Congress and ask them to sign the letter introduced by Congressmen Engel & Yoder that requests no new imposed taxation, and the protection of advertising as a deductible business expense.

AAF Toledo Blog

How to Submit a Guest Blog Post to AAF Toledo
The ideal length for a post is between 850 and 1,000 words and must not have been previously published.
Come up with a great idea. To be considered, AAFTOL blog topics should be related to advertising, marketing and communications. Write something that you would want to read yourself.
Send a proposal. Send a brief proposal to director@aaftoledo.org. Please do not send the full article. Keep it brief: a tentative headline; two or three sentences explaining what the blog will be about; and one sentence saying why you are qualified to write it. Based on this proposal AAFTOL will let you know within three business days whether to submit the article.
Write with the reader in mind. Writing for the web is different from writing for print. The best way to organize the piece is to start with a brief set-up that hooks the reader. Then organize the rest in segments. Assume the reader is busy and has a short attention span. Short paragraphs and headings within the article make it easier to read.
Include a brief bio at the top. Your name; the name of your company (with a link to your website); and if you've written a book relevant to the article, the title of that book with a link to the Amazon page or to your website if the book is available for sale there. If you tweet, please indicate that, and include a link to your Twitter profile page.
Submit the completed article. Please submit your final version by pasting into the body of an e-mail, or attach it as a Microsoft word document. Your submission will be reviewed by AAFTOL editorial board. If we have any questions, comments or concerns, we will contact you.
What happens next? AAFTOL will acknowledge receipt of the blog within 24 hours, and let you know within a week whether it has been accepted for publication. If it is, AAFTOL reserves the right to edit the article, including changes in the text, subheads and headline, to improve readability and maximize web traffic.
