National Heights Baptist Church ~ E-News     April 2018
April provides great opportunities for outreach. The month begins with a celebration of the Resurrection. Easter Sunday, April 1, as our services focus on the Risen Savior, your friends and neighbors will be more open to an invitation than at any other time of the year. Pray that God will use the day to draw individuals and families into His kingdom.

April is also the kickoff for our Vacation Bible School, June 4-8. Leadership planning and training is Sunday, April 15. Once again, we have an outstanding group of lead teachers and workers to present the Good News to the children of our community. Registration for VBS begins Sunday, April 22. Pray now about ways you can invite the children in your neighborhood to be a part of a great week.

I can't wait to see what God is going to do through you!

Our pastor has served alongside our congregation for 20 years with his actual anniversary being April 19th. For the pot-luck dinner, we ask that you bring sides that will go with the meat, rolls, and drink that will be provided. We encourage you to bring a greeting card of encouragement for both Vaughn and Marsha commemorating this milestone of ministry at National Heights. We hope you'll put this very special day on your calendar and join us as we gather to celebrate.

Deacon's Corner
April will represent a very special time for our church. It is the month in which will mark the 20th anniversary of Pastor Vaughn watching over the "flock" at National Heights. Jeremiah 3:15 states, "And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding." Paul in the New Testament points to the fact that deacons should help with the care of the "flock" so the shepherd can study the Word, spend time alone with God in prayer, and teach the Word effectively. I think I can speak for all the deacons in that it is a humble privilege to help Pastor Vaughn in ministering to the "flock." It is even more humbling to know that God is working through Pastor Vaughn to "feed" us with "knowledge and understanding" over these past 20 years. I would like to encourage everyone to keep the Pastor and his family in constant prayer, and for God to continue to give him the ability to guide and instruct us in how to continue to grow as Christians. God Bless Pastor Vaughn and his family.   ~ Scott Foley, Chairman of Deacons

Malta Mission Team 2018
As the Malta Mission Team continues to prepare to serve in Malta this summer, we want to invite you to join us in this amazing opportunity.  Here are two ways you can be involved:  1. Join the "2018 Malta Mission Trip" Group on Facebook.  You will find updates, ways to pray for us and the people of Malta, and a whole lot more, as we prepare to go and while we our on mission in Malta.  2.  We are still collecting funds for our trip.  Stop by our table, just outside the Worship Center, beginning Sunday, April 15 to find out more about our trip and how to support us financially.  Thanks for your continued support for the Malta Mission team.
Women on Mission will meet Tuesday, April 10 at 9:30 in fellowship hall with  Presidents  Judy Divine and Doris Whitcher in charge of the business and reports. Patti Crocker will lead the Prayer Calendar as members pray for missionaries around the world who celebrate their birthdays in April.
A coffee/snack/chat time will convene from 10:15 until 10:40 with hostesses Barbara Vallely and Carolyn Kane in charge.   The morning's program, which begins at 10:45, will be under the direction of Becky Bennett. She will be presenting a program regarding meeting the challenge of our culture. We will be viewing a new resource by apologist Tom Gilson about a topic of huge importance, very timely and critical for families. That is: 'PREPARING YOUR CHILDREN FOR THE TRANSGENDER REVOLUTION." This film has been produced by the American Family Association in 2017. Our children are being confronted with this situation even now. This presentation will help answer the questions:  What is transgender?  How do they approach my child with their message?  How can I teach my child how to respond?  What "not "to say that would hurt his/her Christian testimony? Everyone is welcome to attend this presentation.
Prime Timers
Prime Timers - April 19
Prime Timer's will meet on April 19 at 11:00 am in the Fellowship Hall.  I am pleased to tell you that we will have Heaven's Heart Trio from Hollister, Mo.  They are a Southern gospel trio.  They sing at churches, local events, and have appeared on a local TV program.  They share the love of Jesus through song.  I am sure that we all will be blessed by their program, so come and join us.  As always we will start with prayer request and pray to start our meeting, with a short business meeting to follow.  Then welcome our program.  Following the program we will have our carry-in lunch.  Everyone is asked to bring a dish of your own choosing.  We try to start eating about 12 noon.  Remember to bring food staples or paper goods for Grand Oak Missions, and keep sending those cards to the homebound.  Our hostess for April are Lynda Rose and Patti Crocker  ~Carl Rose
Women on Mission will gather on Tuesday, April 24th at 9:30 for their meeting. This will be an extra work day as a part of the drive to make 5,000 salvation bracelets for our Greene County Baptist Mission Teams to use in Mexico this summer.  These bracelets are very much needed and appreciated by the workers and are an interest getter and a valuable entre' with new young people and adults in other countries.  Doris Whitcher will continue to lead this work on bracelets. All supplies are furnished, so do just come and help us that morning from 9:30 until 11:30.
At the same time some of the Women on Mission ladies will be tacking quilts for Grand Oak Mission. This is under the leadership of Darlene Gideon and Mary McLemore with the children's quilts. Each year our church makes about 12 to 15 regular bed size quilts along with 60 to 75 children's quilts. We give these to our own Greene County Baptist Grand Oak Mission here in Springfield and they are then distributed according to need thru their missionary outreach.
At about 10:15 the group will break for a coffee/snack/chat time. Hostesses are Marti Blattert and Becky Mabus. Come and join the fun and the time of inspiration together. We will appreciate your help and you will enjoy the time together.
