Dr. Alisha Knight, Associate Professor of English and American Studies at Washington College, joins The Book Group to facilitate a discussion of the complex themes in Richard Wright's short story "Man of All Work."

All are welcome at this special event and at The Book Group's regular monthly meetings for a continuing exploration and discussion of works by African American authors.

Presented in partnership with the Museum on Main Street The Way We Worked exhibition.   The Way We Worked, an exhibition created by the National Archives, is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and Maryland Humanities.

Join Baltimore-based web developer, game designer, and writer Chris Klimas as he presents a quick history of stories where the reader gets to choose the narrative. 

The gamebook format of storytelling, which mixes prose and gameplay mechanics, includes the popular Choose Your Own Adventure series, but has a surprisingly vast history -- and some unexpected ancestors.  

Teens and adults welcome at this free program.

Everywhere, Wonder: A Visit with Matthew Swanson and Robbi Behr

Chestertown's own husband/wife, author/illustrator duo Matthew Swanson and Robbi Behr will read their new picture book Everywhere, Wonder, talk about how they make books together, and run a hands-on workshop in which kids will create illustrated journals of the beautiful and interesting things in their world.

Flower arranger (and former Chestertonian) Angela Ingram Bryant, will also be on hand to share her floral sculpture inspired by Everywhere, Wonder.

Spend an evening with acclaimed novelist Roxana Robinson at Kent County Public Library's Chestertown Branch on Friday, May 19th.  

Free tickets for Ms. Robinson's talk will be available on a first come, first served basis at the end of April.  

Roxana Robinson is the author of five novels, including Cost; three collections of short stories; and the biography Georgia O'Keeffe: A Life. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Harper's Magazine, The New York Times, The Washington Post, BookForum, Best American Short Stories, Tin House, and elsewhere. She has received fellowships from the NEA and the Guggenheim Foundation and is the President of the Authors' Guild.
