The Geriatrics and Gerontology Education and Research Program (GGEAR) at the University of Maryland Baltimore, (  www.umaryland.edu.gerontology  ), directed by Reba Cornman, MSW, has  collaborated for over 25 years with AHEC West 
and regional geriatric care professions to provide affordable, accessible, high quality geriatrics education.

The December, 2016 program, "VULNERABLE OLDER ADULTS  and SELF DETERMINATION: Collaboration of Social Services, Medical Practice, and  Legal Services," drew 120 health professionals, including 69 Social Workers, 22  nurses, 6 Psychologist/Professional Counselors, and 23 other geriatrics care providers.   • 100% increased their knowledge as a result of the training
  • 80% would implement at least one practice improvement

GGEAR also supports The Geriatric Assessment Interdisciplinary  Team (GAIT) program, which provides USM students the opportunity to work together in inter-professional teams assessing residents of a Western Maryland  host facility.
